You're not sure what to expect from Dr. Wyatt. He's always been very nice to you when he's examined you in the past and, even though he's had lot of questions for you and the elders concerning the legends and traditions of the Shrunken Daughter, he has always kept it secret from the outsiders. White Dr. Wyatt might be, but he respects the ways of the The People, and thus he is treated with respect in return.
You know what you would have expected from Nathan. You are wearing a white linen dress, off the shoulder that hugs your bosom, revealing a modest amount of cleavage. The upper half of the dress is covered with red, brown and yellow abstract symbols traditionally associated with the People. Your hair is down and thoroughly combed. You wear jewelry made from semi-precious stones found on your people's land around your necklace and waist.
If Nathan had "married" you, as you thought might happen, he'd probably be unceremoniously ripping off that dress right now. Dr. Wyatt has always been respectful and gentle with you, but he is that way with all the People. You've never really considered what it would be like to be in an intimate relationship with Dr. Wyatt, and now it looks as if you may be entering one.
You feel the bag you are riding in opening up, and Dr. Wyatt's hand reaches in to pluck you out. He gently sets you down on a table. On that table you see a beautiful sight.
It's a house. A house your size.
It's a cottage actually. You think that's the word for it. The back wall of the house has hinges, so it can close. There's two big rooms on the bottom floor, two big ones on top, and an attic. Plus closets, a washroom downstairs and a bath up top.
You've lived in shoe boxes and other arrangements all your live, and let's just say that bathroom facilities have been haphazard and leave it at that. But the house in front of you is nicer than anything you've seen even for normal sized people, much less someone your size.
You find yourself crying, and the odd sensation of hope entering your heart.
Dr. Wyatt has to repeat his query on whether you like it or not.
"Oh, yes, it's wonderful," you say, turning to him. You look at the house and then back up at him, and one question comes to mind.
"But why?"
"I've been planning this a long time," he explains. "Once I learned about the wedding ceremony and the challenge. I...well, the council owes me a couple of favors. So I arranged for a game that Nathan thought he would automatically win, and so he wouldn't object when I stepped in to take the challenge as well. And here we are."
Dr. Wyatt paused before continuing. "The thing is, Carla, I did all this...the challenge, the house, everything, because I..."
