This choice: Tell Chelsea what really happened • Go Back...Chapter #8Chelsea's Control by: rugal b. You don't want Chelsea continuing to think that it was your fault all of this happened thanks to Caleb's fuck ups. You're stuck at a red light so you take your phone out and look at it. This might invite her wrath against Caleb but at the same time he would have it coming, right? You hear the ringing and Chelsea's voice answers on the other end, "Who is this?" she asks with a hint of derision.
"It's... it's Will." you stutter, after all this is Chelsea freakin' Cooper you're talking to!
There's a moment of silence. "How did you get my number?" she finally asks in an icy manner.
"It was... it was still in my call history." you state, almost like you're trying to plead innocence, "From when you called me, remember?" Nothing is said so you continue, "I just wanted to know if I could come by early. Like 'right now' early. There's some things I want to set straight about all of this and how it happened."
More silence. You're starting to think that calling her was a very bad idea. Have you pissed her off? "Alright. I'm already here anyway so you better hurry your ass up." And with that the line goes dead.
You arrive at the quarry to see Chelsea at the entrance. "Look, about everything that's happened..." you start as the pair of you walk to where you had previously stashed things, "I just want you to know that--"
"It wasn't you. Your friend made a mask of you and that's who Gordon found and took the book from." she turns to look at you, "Is that what you wanted to say?"
"I... yeah!" you exclaim in surprise, "But how..." As you approach the entrance of the small gave you're surprised to see Caleb having already arrived. He gives you a half-hearted wave. "Alright, what the fuck is going on here?" you ask.
Chelsea turns to, "Oh well it's funny because your friend here had called me as well telling me he had lots of things he wanted to tell me. I don't know how he got my number though." she turns and glowers at Caleb, "He really is a very sneaky one, isn't he?"
"Look, after you went off on me like that Will I realized that I fucked up. I made things worse for you." he says.
"And me." Chelsea chimes in.
"It was eating away at my conscience." Caleb does a rather good job at pretending he didn't hear her, "So I thought it would be best if I set the record straight. Chelsea gave me a ride, if you call being forced to lay down in the backseat of her car that, and I came clean."
"I am not going to risk the possibility of you being seen with me." Chelsea states before turning back to you. "He told me lots more as well: about the book and new spells and things like that. It turns out I can get Gordon back after all!" with that she turns again towards Caleb's direction, "Oh Gorrrrdon!" she calls out as if calling a dog. You're surprised to see a very alive Gordon Black emerge from behind Caleb.
"Alright this is getting really weird." you state not sure if you can process all of this. "What's going on? I thought he was a statue thing."
"It's the book and those masks." Caleb says, "I found out that the statue things, they're sort of like... you could call them golems I guess. And basically, long story short, if you put a mask of someone onto them they'll become that person only they'll be under the total control of someone." he explains.
"And that someone would be me." Chelsea states with a smirk, "I mean, I suppose I'll want the real Gordon back eventually but one that has to do anything I say is just as good, isn't it Gordon?"
"Yes Chelsea." Gordon replies dryly.
Chelsea practically squeals, "Oooh! It's just so great!" she states happily. "So for now, since things have kind of worked themselves out for the time being I suppose that this little alliance of ours has ended." She states as she and Gordon begin walking out of the cave but she soon stops and turns around. "Caleb, I'm giving you a pass but if you ever try anything like that with me, Gordon, my cheerleaders, or the basketball team again it will be the last thing you ever do. And Will..." she stops for a moment as if struggling to get the right words out, "Thanks."
As you drive yourself and Caleb back into town you hear him audibly groan. "God, can you believe her? I fucked up but I found out all that shit and I'm the one who gets threatened, while you..." his voice trails off.
"I think that's why you got the pass." you tell him, "Her way of being grateful. You did fuck things up."
"Still, what a cunt. Ugh, and she's got the book too!" he slouches down in his seat visibly irritated.
"So you still want some donuts?" you ask as you head in the direction of one of the donut shops. You're a bit disappointed that your time with Chelsea was short but you're also a bit relieved things are back to normal. Mostly. Maybe she'll actually tell those goons on the basketball team not to mess with you as much.

Those hopes seem to be dashed when, inbetween classes on Monday, you're cornered by Gordon near one of the men's rooms and shoved in as he snarls at people to get out. "Get in." he growls as he shoves you into an empty stall. He then gives you, practically tosses really, a mask and band and tells you to put those on as well. Once you've done that (as well as come to) you hand them back over to Gordon while he gives you one last thing. "Don't be late." he mutters before taking off.
You take the piece of folded up paper and open it to find that it's a note: an invitation from Chelsea to meet at her place after school. You're practically giddy at the opportunity. About what you have no idea, after all the alliance was over... or so she had said. Maybe it's not? Maybe she's not happy with this arrangement with Gordon after all. Still, the prospect at being at Chelsea Cooper's house leaves you excited. It's so exciting that you practically float through the rest of your day barely paying much attention to any of the lessons. Your conversations with friends are about as simple and to the point as possible, even with Caleb who you decide not say anything to. Why? You're unsure, maybe part of you is being greedy and wants to keep any possible interaction with Chelsea solely between you and her. No matter the reason you practically explode out to your truck once the final bell rings.

You arrive at Chelsea's a little after four o' clock. You notice a car parked out front that's not hers and wonder, briefly, who it belongs to. Probably a parent or something but you can't help notice that it looks vaguely familiar. Nervously, once you reach the front door, you reach up a finger and ring the doorbell. A few seconds later Chelsea answers with a smile and invites you in. It's not shabby; not the nicest house ever but not bad either. It's thoroughly middle class through and through. You ask if anyone else is here and she tells you one other person. Her mother is usually home but is out picking up things for dinner. Without wasting much time she guides you up to her room but tells you to wait outside while she gets something and closes the door. A moment later she tells you to come in and no sooner is the door open than do you feel something being jammed into your face as you black out.
You awaken a few moments later on the floor, sitting up and noticing something is odd. You look up to see Chelsea grinning at you and brush some hair, long hair, out of your face. "You alright, Yumi?" she asks, a somewhat snarky tone in her voice. "You should probably get dressed."
"Yumi? What are you..." and then it hits you like a ton of bricks. The mind opens up to you. You become very aware of your body. You're Yumi Saito... or at least Will Prescott in a Yumi Saito mask. You let that sink in: Yumi Saito. Yumi freakin' Saito! You notice some clothes sitting next to you, underwear and some jeans as well as a simple shirt, and put them on. Once they're on Chelsea, anticipating your train of thought, speaks.
"Will, you helped me. You didn't have to and you did it after being roped into this by your doofus friend. I'm... kind of grateful for that." she says, "I want to pay you back a bit. I've got these masks, Gordon figured out a way to get them done fast, and I've got what Caleb told me so I figured why not give you a better life."
"A better life?" you ask, "Why Yumi? Why a girl? Why not, I don't know, Geoff Mansfield?" you immediately become embarrassed blurting that out and you notice Chelsea giving you a queer look.
"Because Yumi is pretty. Yumi is nice. Yumi is... popular." you notice a trace of venom when she says that, "This isn't pure charity Will, you know. I'm going to need your help. There are elements on the squad that make things unstable: Yumi, Cindy, Lin, the Garners. Yumi's the most popular of those, the most influential. I need to squash out any dissent." she then flashes a smile at you, "That's where you come in. I'm thinking about naming a co-captain and that co-captain will be you. You'll be a figurehead, of course, but it'll look good. Chelsea Cooper loosening up the reins. With you in my back pocket I can hopefully use 'Yumi's' influence to calm them down."
"And what if they don't go for it?" you ask, not sure completely of what's going on but figuring it's best not to ask questions for now.
"I've got contingencies." Chelsea replies, "Like I said I've got masks. There are people who would jump at a chance to be on the squad. If those four don't want to play along, well then I make them play along. You understand?"
You gulp. Chelsea certainly is ruthless but at the same time... she DID just give you a better life. But you wonder who she has in mind to bring in if you can't play peacemaker. You notice that she didn't invite Caleb to this, only you, and you wonder why. Maybe you should ask about using him for this if she has to but since he's not here perhaps he's a sore spot with her and it'd be best to just drop it. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
