Chapter #6Purchase. by: J117   Her parents both work, and that's what brought her to the city of Hollowfield. She was tired of the constant moving and transferring of schools that followed their work. So she decided to find a school and live at a dorm there, that is what brought her here to Hollowfield and the all girls high school near her dorm, Marchell High.
It is Sunday, the day before her first day and the start of a new term at her new school. She had finished packing the day before and planned on exploring town today. The city itself was not all that big, her dorm was just outside of it, located near the school, but she was able to walk to the center of town. The people here seemed to be nice as she walked around, checking out the shops and various sites located throughout the city.
A few hours pass, and she is about ready to go home. She passes by an antique store, and she decides to go inside. Now she isn't big on antiques, this is the first antique store that she has ever been in, but for some reason, she felt like going inside. She starts to browse the small shop, until something catches her eye. It was an old lamp, like the ones from the old genie stories that she use to read when she was younger.
It was in a case laying on a red pillow with yellow tassels and a see through glass top. She knew she had to have it, it reminded her too much of her childhood. She asks the old lady at the counter how much it was. "Oh, that old thing? I found that so long ago. It has been in my attic for so long that I had forgotten about it. Let's see, the lamp and case will be $50. After thinking it over, she gets it, she knew that it must be hers. With her new lamp and case, she carries it to her dorm.
Katelyn has a single room dorm. There are girls that share rooms, but she wanted one to herself. She has a basic bed, wall lamp and dresser, the stuff that came with the room. "This will be good for now," she says as she places the case on top of the dresser.
She couldn't wait any longer. She opens the case and carefully takes out the lamp. "Heavier than it looks", she says to herself as she examines it. "It looks just like the lamps from my old books and tapes," she says in a happy voice. She grabs an old cloth of hers, she wants to clean it.
She hesitates, she knows it's ridiculous, some powerful being that's able to grant wishes. She convinces herself that it won't happen as she starts to rub the lamp.
The lamp starts to shake. This surprises her and she falls backwards. The lamp doesn't follow, it is now hanging in mid air, still trembling. Katelyn stares in disbelief as smoke starts to pour out of it. She is now staring at a....   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
