Chapter #6Dude, where's our Limo? by: Aurthor Now that the photo shoot was over it was time to head to the reception. While the photographer put away his equipment the groom and his faux bride headed to where their limo was parked. It was a fair walk in high heels and even thought the park was immaculately landscaped she had to gather up and carry the bottom of the dress so it wouldn’t drag on the path and get dirty.
All Kevin’s family had headed to the hotel by then, and with the exception of the photographer’s minivan and a 12 year old Saturn coup, the parking lot was empty when they reached it.
“Where’s the Limo?” Angela asked, tuning to Kevin.
Kevin smiled as he slipped his cell phone back in his jacket pocket. “There’s no shade in the parking lot” he explained. “Rather than have it running for two hours so the air conditioning would work, I told the driver park beneath the overpass and I would text him when we were ready. He should be here shortly.” He looked at her with a smile. “Can’t have my beautiful bride sitting in a hot car now, can I?”
“Ah,” Angela said, smiling up at him “That’s so thoughtful.”
“What can I say?” he said, giving her a playful hug. “You married a thoughtful guy.”
“Oh, right! You are so full of it.” She replied, but she hugged him back anyway. The hug felt really nice, so she stayed cuddled in his arm until the crunch of gravel announced the limo’s return.
Settling into the back seat once more, Angela picked up the half bottle of champagne. Seeing Kevin’ look of disapproval she laughed. “Relax, she said, pulling a couple of glasses out of their holder. “This time I’ll take a more civilized approach, as befits a woman of my status.” She poured two glasses, passing him one and raising the other in salute “To you, Mr. Kevin Richardson.” She said in mock toast.
“And to you, he said in return, “Mrs. Kevin Richardson.”
Angela downed her drink in one go, shaking her head. “What makes you think I’m taking your name.” she giggled.
Kevin smiled as he downed his drink almost as fast. Angela had forgotten to re-cork the bottle on the drive over, so the all the bubbles had gone out. It was like chugging apple juice.
“We’re married now, so that’s almost a given.” He said. “Plus, knowing how old fashioned my grandfather is, he’s probably already got the paperwork started.”
“That,” Angela said with a frown “Sounds exactly like something the arrogant old bugger would do.”
“Be nice now. To his way of thinking he’s doing you a favor. In his day when a woman got married they would take the husbands name. Besides, that 'old bugger' is going to make you a rich woman.”
“Believe me, that is the only reason I’m letting him get away with it.” She reached for the bottle.
“I think that’s enough for now, Angela. We’ve got the dinner and dance to get through yet.”
Angela pouted, but let Kevin take the bottle away. There would be more soon enough.
