Chapter #8

The stars are bright, deep in the heart of Texas

A staple image in film and television is that of a limo pulling into a roomy brightly lit hanger where a shiny Lear Jet awaits to whisk the characters off to some exotic destination. For our newlyweds life was playing out pretty much the same, with a few minor differences. The hanger isn’t so brightly lit, having to get by with off the shelf sodium lamps instead of movie grade lighting. The tool racks made the space a bit more cramped, and instead of a Lear Jet there was an older twin engine Beachcraft B100 Airking. The plane was well polished and shiny though.

Angela still thought the whole thing was pretty awesome.

Two men were standing near the nose of the craft, having a discussion over a clipboard, as the car stopped just inside the hanger doors. Must be the pilots, Angela thought, judging from the way they were dressed in dark slacks with white shirts and a dark blue tie. The epaulets and winged badges they each sported confirmed this.

The limo pulled to a stop just inside the hanger doors and the driver got out to open the door for the couple. As he did so one of the pilots standing near the nose of the craft walked the short distance over to the car and held out his hand.

“You two must be the old man’s grandson and the new grand-daughter we’ve heard about. I must say his descriptions of your beauty fall far short of the real thing.”

Angela smiled and blushed slightly at the complement. She and Kevin had changed into less formal and more comfortable clothes for the trip, and the simple skirt and blouse she was currently wearing was nowhere near as elegant as the dress she had on earlier. Her hair and makeup had suffered a little, but was still in very good condition considering all dancing she’d done earlier. What little damage there had been she had attempted to repair during the limo ride. While nowhere near as good as the professional makeup job she’d had earlier, she had been quite happy with the results.

I’m Captain Rogers, and that’s Captain Harding,” the man continued. “We’ll be the pilots for your honeymoon flight.”

“Two of you?” Kevin said as he shook the offered hand, “I thought Grandpa said the plane only needed one pilot.”

“Normally we would only need the one, but after we drop you off we’re headed for a pick up in Nevada. Captain Harding here is recertifying for IFS and needs the hours, so I said he could come along as my co-pilot tonight. Any questions before we get start to load up? Oh, by the way. You might want to use the washroom before you do.” He looked at Angela as he spoke. “It’s a four hour flight and there’s no toilet on board.”

Angela felt like saying she could hold it if needed, then changed her mind. Her bladder was a lot smaller than she was used to and there was all that champagne still in her system that would be looking for a way out in the very near future. Plus something down in her gut was twitching uncomfortably. She only hoped she wasn’t developing diarrhea. Stress can make a woman’s body react in all sorts of unpleasant ways, as Kevin’s sister had so helpfully pointed out a couple of days earlier, eagerly sharing the secret that she’d developed diarrhea two days into her honeymoon. Angela had scoffed at the idea, thinking maybe it had been the water of the Mexican resort had been the real culprit. Now, the twitches in her belly made her wonder if there hadn’t been something to what Kelly had said.

“Sounds like a good idea.” she said, looking around for the bathroom door.

“Down the hall to your left.” Captain Rogers pointed. “It will be cleaner than the one here in the hanger.”

When Angela came back the three men had already loaded most of the luggage and were getting ready to board the aircraft. It was surprisingly tall, she thought, ducking down slightly to walk underneath. Yet at the top of the short steep stairs that lead up into the cabin she found that she had to duck once again order to not hit her head on the ceiling. The interior was not the bus like cavern she was used to on commercial airlines, more like a wide minivan. A luxury minivan though, she thought as she settled into one of the four plush leather covered passenger seats. The two sets at the front were turned facing backwards, so the passengers could all see each other. Probably arranged that way for in flight business meetings, she figured. The pilots had worked their way forward and were now settled into their seats in the cockpit, flipping switches, turning dials, and generally going about the business of bringing the plane to life. Angela idly played with the controls of her seat, and discovered it could recline almost horizontal.

“Looks like you can turn the seats into a bed” her new husband observed wryly.

“Why would you want to do that?” Angela asked, half teasingly. “You aren’t thinking about joining the mile high club, are you?”

Kevin laughed “I don’t think a plane this small can get up that high.”

“Actually,” Captain Harding said, looking back over his shoulder at the two of them, “Our service ceiling is 30,000 feet, which is just a little under five and a half miles. We can certainly get you up there if that’s what you want.” Angela’s ears reddened as she realized the co-pilot had heard every word. “Although you might want to know,” he continued, further adding to her embarrassment, “We can feel the plane shift every time you move around back there, so we would appreciate it if you keep the gymnastics to a minimum.” With that he turned back to the job of getting the plane ready for take off.

A short time later they were in the air. Angela was tired, so she reclined her seat and closed her eyes. Falling asleep in a moving vehicle wasn’t something that came easily. There never seemed to be a way to get comfortable enough. This time the droning of the twin engines made her eyelids feel heavier than normal, and she started to drift off. Just as she started to doze off a sudden noise startled her awake.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. The noise is from the outside of the plane

2. The noise is from the inside of the plane

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
