This choice: Mental changes hit in the morning • Go Back... Michelle left the house around 7:30 the next morning to do some last-minute shopping for the trip. While they had some clothes in their size to choose from, no one had a week’s worth of clothes for the trip. Normally she would frown on the idea of leaving two 6-year-old kids home alone; but she figured it wouldn’t be problem since they had the minds of teenagers.
She eventually left Walmart just before 9:15; with enough clothes to last the entire trip. Not only did she buy enough clothes to last each of them the week, while also buying extras just in case Robby and Libby wanted to spend the day as girl-girl or boy-boy twins. She also bought an extra set of clothes in case one of them decided they wanted to be Michelle’s twin sister for the evening. The last thing she bought was a set of booster seats for the car.
Michelle returned to the house thinking nothing was out of the ordinary; that lasted all of 10 seconds when she walked inside to find the house was a total disaster. The kids must’ve gotten into the boxes of their old things; because Lilly was playing with her dolls in front of the TV while Robby was running through the house with his cap guns.
Dropping the bags of clothes on the floor, she managed to grab Robby just as he ran by. Kneeling to his level, Michelle said, “Robby, sweetie, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Mommy; I’s just dranked two cans of Coke.”
Robby ran off before Michelle could question his odd behavior, so she walked over to Lilly in the family room. “Lilly, do you know what’s what wrong your brother?”
Lilly looked up at Michelle for a moment before returning to her dolls. After being silent for a moment, she said, “He’s just being a stupid boy, Mommy.” Raising one of her dolls towards Michelle, she said, “Say hi to Mrs. Butterfield!”
Deciding it was best to play along, unsure about what was happening, Michelle said, “Hello Mrs. Butterfield; can you ask Lilly why she and her brother are acting this way?”
After getting nowhere with Lilly or Robby, who was currently drinking his 3rd coke, Michelle walked into the kitchen. Retrieving her cellphone from her pocket, she dialed Grace’s number and waited for an answer. “Hello?”
“Grace, it’s Michelle. The kids and I used the medallion...”
“I knew you’d use it!” laughing on the other end of the line, Grace said, “How’s it working out for you?”
“It’s working out great for me; I haven’t felt this great in years. But Robby and Lilly seem to be acting strangely.” Sitting at the kitchen table, Michelle continued, “They used the medallion to become 6-year-old versions of themselves; I came home from Walmart to find them acting like they were actually 6 years old.”
“Oh dear; I probably should have warned you about that feature. If you use the medallion to change your age right before going to bed; you wake up the next morning acting just like the age you became.” Pausing, Grace said, “Robby and Lilly are acting like 6 years old because mentally that’s how old they are.”
“Please tell me this is reversible, Grace.” Covering her mouth in suspense, Michelle said, “I can’t have my teenagers acting like 6-year-olds.”
“Relax; the mental changes will reverse themselves once they use the medallion again.” Chuckling, Grace said, “In the meantime; try to enjoy having two little kids again. I’m sure they’ll have a blast at Disney World now.”
Michelle hung up the phone a few minutes later, after talking some more with Grace. Getting up from the table, she turned to walk into the family room only to find Robby and Lilly staring up at her. This wasn’t the vacation she had planned, but she’d have to roll with the punches.
“Okay guys; there’s something I need to know before we leave for Disney World.” Getting down on her knees, she said, “You two do remember being teenagers, right?”
Robby and Lilly looked at each other before turning back to Michelle, “Yeah Mommy, we ‘member being teenagers. But right now this is more funner.”
Getting to her feet, Michelle said, “Okay then; I guess I’m taking my teenage children, who are physically and mentally 6 years old, to Disney World.” indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
