Once it simmered for five minutes, she poured it into the bowl and garnished it with tofu and scallion pieces. She wasn't sure this was right, but it was the best idea she had. It smelled good, and she thought it tasted like Souji's soup, but that didn't matter as much as Rise's opinion.
"Bowl A: Fail."
With a firm sigh, Yukiko reached for her tie and released the knot. Her feelings were quickly reflected by the other girls. Failing at something as simple as Miso Soup was not a good start to the contest. Those feelings could only be amplified by being the very first bad dish. Worst of all, as the very first dish judged, it also spread fear among all the girls. Perhaps Rise had been mean, or perhaps the omelettes were a fluke and the best they had normally was Mystery Food X. The idea that Yukiko had simply made an error on one dish never entered their minds.
Nanako's voice clearly pitched as she began reading the next bowl. "Bowl B: Pass. YAY!" The other girls were convinced they had to crane their necks upwards to follow her jump. There was little doubt who made Bowl B.
"That was the best bowl I've had in a long time, Nanako-chan," Rise replied. It was no hyperbole either, Nanako definitely mastered Miso Soup. Bringing a smile to her face was just an added bonus.
"Thanks, Rise-chan," Nanako gasped.
She continued, "Bowl C: Pass." It was quick and easy to miss, but for a brief moment a smile clearly spread across Naoto's face. Who could blame her? Just one more successful meal and she wouldn't have to show off any of the more personal areas of her body.
"Bowl D: Fail."
Chie groaned as she slid her jacket off of her shoulders. Another failure right from the beginning. At least it wouldn't impact the quality of her other dishes. Although, these feelings might have been able to help her, not hinder her.
"Keep going, Nanako-chan," Rise urged. "We're all set."
"Okay. Second course...
