Chapter #5

Head to a thrift store

"Let's go get some clothes," Sean said. "I don't want to run around tiny and naked. Just tiny's enough for me."

Brian laughed. "Sure. And I'll make sure not to say the 'Get smaller' word. Still, we should probably stick together, I mean, it's not a common word, but if someone else says it, I'll need to say grow to get you back to normal." Brian paused. "you aren't going to grow bigger than normal when I say that, right?"

"Obviously not," Sean said, laughing. "No, I would be like seven foot by now if I did. The experiment is all about shrinking."

"Just checking." Brian led Sean out to his car, which was a little white thing that always made Sean feel cramped at six feet tall. He had to bend his neck down, and his knees hit his chest.

"You should really get a bigger car, dude," Sean said.

"Or I could get a smaller friend," Brian replied, flashing Sean a grin. He put the car in gear, but didn't start driving. Sean could tell that beneath his joke, he was actually offering to make Sean smaller.

Sean laughed. "Hey, why not? Hit me with a 'shrink' or two. It beats having to hug my knees the whole way there."

Brian smiled. "Shrink. Shrink." Sean dropped a foot, and even though his clothes now felt like a circus tent on him, it was really nice not having to bend his neck to fit in the car. "I probably look seriously stupid right now," Sean said, laughing.

"Definitely need some new clothes," Brian said. "But I'll grow you back up when we get to the store, if you want."

"Uh, yeah. I'm not walking in there like this man."

Brian chuckled and drove tot he store. A few of the other drivers shot Sean weird looks, but he shrugged it off. Sure, his clothes were massive, but at least he was comfortable.

When they got to the store, Brian said "grow, grow" to get Sean back to normal. He stepped out of the car and stretched out.

"Okay," Brian said. "You can borrow my clothes for when you lose one foot. I'm only five four, so your five-foot self should fit them just fine. Other than that, we'll probably want new ones for every six inches. That'll be, what, ten sets of clothes?"

"Or just whatever we can find," Sean said. "If we can't find really little ones, I can probably just cut up a shirt and make like a robe or something."

"It's a plan." They headed into the store, and Sean started throwing different sized shirts, pants, and underwear into the cart, promising himself that he'd wash all the clothes really well before wearing any. Brian had way too much fun picking out different six-inch-tall dolls with removable clothes. Sean had to veto the Barbies in a sun dress and the little miniskirt, but he gave in and bought a GI-Joe action figure with removable camos, as well as a beach party ken doll with shorts and a vest.

It was weird for Sean to buy literal baby clothes, knowing that he'd actually be fitting into them later. He couldn't find anything for a foot-tall sean, and he had serious doubts that the little onesie pajamas he'd picked out would actually fit onto a shrunken teenager, but he figured it'd be good for a laugh.

With the nine sets of clothes as well as the dolls, it cost Sean about 40$ to prepare himself for all his various levels of shrinkage. Since the experiment was giving him so much money, he figured it was okay to spend that much. Sean loaded his new clothes into Brian's car, and at Sean's request, Brian shrunk him on their way back home so he'd fit better.

I'm actually going to miss being able to fit in this tiny car after the experiment ends, Sean thought. Sean threw all the clothes into the washer with more laundry soap than was strictly necessary, then reclined on Brian's couch while Brian went into his room with a mischievous grin on his face.

After Sean finished the laundry, he laid out all his clothes from small to smallest on the kitchen table. Brian came out after a few minutes with a baseball cap in his hands. The cap had a bunch of folded slips of paper in it.

"What's that?" Sean asked.

"I had an awesome idea on how we can do this," Brian said. "The people with this experiment want you to try living at all different sizes, right?"

"Yeah..." Sean bit his lip, wondering where Brian was going with this.

"Okay, so I figure if you're staying here for at least spring break, which is the next two weeks, then we can try a different size every single day. You lose about six inches every time I say shr--" Brian cleared his throat. "Every time I say the 'mini-Sean' word, right?"

"Yeah. Exactly six inches," Sean said.

"Okay, so you've got twelve different sizes to try out. From one inch, all the way up to five-six, right?"

"Oh," Sean said, looking down at the cap. "So, what, every day I just grab a slip of paper, and it tells me how big I'll be?"

"Yep! It'll be super random, and you'll get to do all the different sizes. That should make the experiment people happy, right?"

"Yeah, I guess that would work okay," Sean said. He was a bit nervous about this, since it meant he'd be giving up control over how big he'd be, but it did sound like a pretty fun way to go about it.

"We don't have to do it like this," Brian said. "I just thought this would be pretty cool, not knowing how big you'll be tomorrow."

Sean hesitated. He finally said,

2. "Let's just shrink me a little bit every day
