Chapter #4I Know About the Diapers by: Unknown On her way down her front porch, Rachel noticed somebody across the street staring at her. For some reason, it made Rachel flinch. It looked like a young woman. Rachel looked at the red jeep, parked in front of the garage. She picked her keys out of her pocket, looked back at the lady, and flinched again. The lady was now walking up her driveway. Rachel stopped and waited to meet her.
"Hello." said the strange lady. She had light brown skin and long black hair that went all the way down her back. Rachel couldn't tell if she was Latin or Middle-Eastern.
"Um," Rachel said "hi. Do I know you?"
"No, my name is Nahlia." she reached out for Rachel's hand.
"Rachel." she said, shaking Nahlia's hand. The woman had an accent that Rachel couldn't put her finger on.
"Um," Nahlia hesitated. She had a strange constant smile, like a salesman. "Do you think I could talk with you for a moment?"
"Wh-"
Before Rachel could respond, Nahlia said, "We could talk while you drive." She gestured at the keys Rachel was holding.
"Um, I'm sorry, but, I'm kind of in a real hurry. Maybe some other time?"
"But Rachel, it's very important."
"Um, what is this about?
Nahlia stared blankly at her for a moment, then looked around. "Listen," she said, "I know about the diapers."
Rachel wasn't sure how to respond. Was this woman saying that she knew about her selling diapers, or did she know more?
"Yes," Nahlia said, "the woman you received the plant from. She is my auntie."
Rachel couldn't think of anything to say. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Please," Nahlia said, "I believe you are in danger."
As they drove to IHOP, Nahlia explained to Rachel that . . .   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
