"Yes."
Alex' heart nearly dropped. Her voice was... strangely normal. If you took out the wings, the strange eyes and colour-changing hair, this could just be an ordinary person. But she was an angel, she had said she was and he believed her. There were truly strange things in the world, which led to his next question:
"Have... have you fallen... have you fallen from the sky?" he asked. A pause.
"Yes." she finally answered.
"W-Why?"
Another pause. "I..." She was lowering her head, looking at the soil. "I..." Her hair started to get darker, over dim grey to completely black. Shortly after, he could hear her sobbing.
"N-never mind!" he quickly said, thinking about something else to ask. "Um... A - are you hurt?"
She swallowed her tears, nodding slightly. Alex, still sitting on the ground, got back to his feet.
"Shall I bring you to a hospital?" he offered, noticing he wasn't stuttering anymore. The angel's arm moved to her face, wiping the tears from her eyes.
"Well..." She paused, not looking at him. "Well, I... my injuries... they... they will heal up themselves, but... it may need a few days, so..." Her hair was turning white again. "If... if you would... it would be nice if you could... um..."
"You need a place to rest, huh?" he finished the sentence for her. She nodded, looking nervously into his eyes. Alex scratched his head. What should he do now? Find a hotel for her? But if she was injured, he couldn't leave her alone. Maybe he should take her to a hospital... on the other hand though, hospitals were expansive, and if she really healed up by herself, it was a waste of money - probably his money, as he couldn't imagine an angel to carry money.
Finally, he made up his mind: "Okay, you can stay at my place for a few weeks if you like. But I'll warn you: My apartment's tiny."
A smile came into the angel's face. "Thanks." she said. Her hair was changing colour again, this time turning blond. Blushing, Alex looked away. Now she really looked like an angel.
"C-can you stand up?" he quickly asked. She looked down at herself, her hair becoming brown now.
"I'm... afraid I can't... not by myself" Alex walked over to her, trying to help her up, but her wings were too heavy. "Wait." She moved her arm towards her chest, pressing her thumb against it. Her wings started to glow, like they were made out of light, then vanished inside her body.
As she got on her feet, he put an arm under her shoulder, leading her to his car. "I'm Sarina." she suddenly said. He smiled.
"Alex." he said "Nice to meet you!" She smiled back at him, her hair turning blond again.
