Midna decided she needed to know the source of that strange music. She floated up a few feet into the air and followed the source of the sound deep into the forest, until most of the light had been blocked out by the heavy foliage. But still, Midna pressed on, as the music got louder and louder, until she finally entered a small grove with a humongous tree stump in the center.
A young boy who wore a large straw hat was standing on the center of the stump playing a trumpet. Sitting next to him was a lantern emitting a strange blue light. When he finally finished playing his trumpet, he opened his eyes, which, to Midna's surprise, were a bright, yellow, which seemed to glow against his balck, shadow veiled face. He noticed the little imp watching him almost immediately, he smiled at her, hopping off the stomp and hurrying over to her.
"Hi! Nice to meet you!" He grinned at her, "Did you like my song?"
"Ummm... it was very nice..." Midna replied, a bit surprised by his forwardness, "I'm Midna." she introduced herself, "What's your name?"
"I'm Skullkid!" The young boy replied, happily, "Thanks for liking my song!" He grinned broadly at the small imp again, "I like you! You wanna be friends?"
"Sure, okay." Midna replied sheepishly.
"Hooray!" Skullkid cheered, "Now that we're friends, We need something to show it!" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a dark red gem and placed it in Midna's palm. "I found this ages ago, but since you're a girl, I think you'd like having a gem more!"
"Gee... thanks." Midna replied, examining the stone. Suddenly, she yawned again, feeling very tired once more.
"If you're tired, you can sleep here." Skullkid offered, "The grass is really soft!" he told her, and without waiting for a response, he backflipped into the trees, and disappeared, "Hee hee! See you later!" He called, back to her before the echo disappeared. Midna laid herself down on a patch of grass and found that it really was soft, and she fell asleep almost instantly, and as she slept he dark jewel she still kept in her hand started to glow an eerie red light.
