"Volleyball doesn't appeal to me as before..."
"Whaaat?"
"Another day I made a discovery."
Zeinab took a magazine from her bag and handed it to Kelsey. She looked at the cover: "FLEX" Below the title, a photo of a very pretty blonde woman smiling. She had muscles bigger than most of those of the guys Kelsey ever met in her life.
"Kelsey, I want to try bodybuilding."
"Huh?"
"It's a sport where people exercise to make their muscles grow to get huge and strong."
"I know that. What I can't understand is why you want to quit your life-long passion - the Volleyball - and start a whole different sport so suddenly and just when you were about to succeed in becoming part of the Olympics team! Also, don't professional bodybuilders need to make some special diets and take chemicals and even some drugs, besides working out a lot, to enter those competitions?"
"Yeah, I think. But, look, since I've been doing the stretches you taught me, I started to gain not only height." Zeinab brought her right arm up and flexed a small, but noticeable biceps. "Somehow, these stretching exercises activated the growth of my muscle fibers. Since I noticed that my muscles were growing and I was becoming stronger, I started to get interested in how muscle building works. I just started my research, but I didn't found absolutely nothing about using exercises like these by bodybuilders yet. In other words, I think that we can start our bodybuilder careers with a very nice advantage from the others..."
"OUR careers??!"
"Yes! Since I decided to start bodybuilding, I thought to myself that I should share this special secret with you, since I own all this to you. And I've been thinking, if we become training partners and work out together with discipline, we can increase even more our progress rate! I'll teach you how to do the stretches the right way so you'll be able to grow like me in no time!"
"Zeinab, it's true that I need to get some more exercise, but I'm not sure if I want to be one of those manly buff women that are on your magazine..."
Her friend stopped her with a double biceps pose.
"Kelsey, you can't ever imagine how good it feels to realize everyday that you became a little stronger than the previous day. This sensation of power is overwhelming! And those women aren't manly at all!"
Kelsey didn't reply, since she knew well how stubborn Zeinab used to be in previous times.
"Look, just think about it. I'll start working out at World Gym tomorrow at 6 A.M. If you believe that life can be much more interesting than it's now, you are more than welcome to get along."
They departed and went to their homes. Kelsey spent that night thinking carefully about her friend's offer. Zeinab made all preparations for her first day as an amateur bodybuilder and rushed to bed, although she could barely sleep out of so much anticipation.
