This choice: Zeinab fails the try outs, and instead begins training her youngest sister. • Go Back...Chapter #3Zeinab fails the try outs, and instead begins t... by: apoo The tryouts came quickly, and Zeinab tried her hardest. She had never put so much work into something in her life, and was crushed when she didn't make the team. She came home to a family that was supportive, but her old fashioned parents were still blunt. "This is not the life of a young lady!" Her dad said to her in Arabic. "It's better this way." She knew her dad meant well, and was just stuck in his ways, and didn't blame him for it.
Her mom followed this by saying, "It's God's way of punishing you for wearing those shorts." She said. "If you had worn the pants I got you, this wouldn't have happened." Her mom, being pious, didn't bother her much either. Zeinab wasn't as religious as her parents, but still believed. She also felt that God wouldn't have a direct hand in situations like this. Besides, what about all the other girls who wear bikinis and shorts and still made the team. She wanted to yell that at her mom, but resisted, and went to her room.
In her room, her 13 year old sister was waiting for her, with a flower. Her little sister, Mariam, was Zeinab's biggest fan. When She heard that Zeinab didn't make the team, Mariam cried. Zeinab was able to hold back the tears until she walked in on Mariam, her eyes full of tears, and a flower in her hand. Zeinab broke down, and hugged her sister.
Mariam was a much more timid girl than Zeinab. She was much more shy and less aggressive. she was one who worried about everyone she cared about all the time. Whenever her sisters were even a few minutes late to anything, she would worry slightly thinking something happened to them. this worrying does take a bit of a toll on her sometimes. she is extremely introverted with people she doesn't know. she wishes she could be very extroverted and outgoing, and that is a constant battle of her own personality.
As the years went by, Zeinab continued to resist her parent's suggestions to get married and be a house wife, and went to college. Her little sister, Mariam, wanted to follow in her sister's footsteps, and started playing volleyball. Zeinab took her under her wing, training her, and helping her exercise.
As the years went on, Mariam grew taller, and faster, than her other sisters. By the time she was 14, she was 6'3". When she turned 15, she was 6'5", just as tall as Zeinab. When she turned 16, her growth doubled it's speed, as she grew 4 inches that year. When she was 17, she had passed 7 feet tall, and when she turned 18, she was 7'3". She had graduated high school, and was trying out for the Olympics just like Zeinab did.
Zeinab had gotten her degree, and was trying for her masters, but managed to keep Mariam in shape. Mariam had grown into a spitting image of Zeinab, except for being 10 inches taller. This didn't effect Mariam's self esteem as much as it did for Zeinab, because mariam had the support of her 3 sisters, each of which who stopped growing around 6'4" and 6'5".
Mariam was even better than Zeinab at volleyball, and Zeinab was happy for her sister who would probably make the team. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
