Edward, the young, skilled swordsman from Daein, was practicing his swordsmanship alone. The practice wasn’t going so well, though, as the sword fighter found himself filled with thoughts that were taking an effect on his skills. The boy examined a cut on a dummy he made from some hay and appeared displeased. The cut was no where as clean as it should have been. At this rate, he would soon find himself further behind all his companions than he already was. Ever since everyone, save for him and his comrades, were turned to stone by some evil goddess, he was feeling a lot more distant from everyone than usual. The tacticians, such as Soren, and the “important figures”, like Ike and Sanaki, were the ones taking the spotlight. He was only good for bringing his sword into battle and cutting himself through the enemy forces. Even that was becoming a rare occurrence, seeing how more skilled swordsman had joined their ranks.
Finding it impossible to train like this, Edward sheathed his sword and headed back to his tent. They were short on tents, so he was forced to share his with a few others. He didn’t mind, but was glad no one was currently inside so he could be left alone for a bit. Edward put his sword on the ground and laid himself on the bedroll, hands folded behind his head. He was about to close his eyes when something caught his attention. Something that looked like a small, green pebble was hanging from he ceiling of the tent. Edward reached up and tugged the rock free. He examined it closely and found nothing special about it, although it did look kind of nice. Something else was hanging next to it: a note. He took this as well and read it.
Swallow this and all attention will be on you.
“Swallow it? This rock? Is it even edible?” Edward asked himself. He took a quick lick of the rock and drew his head back in disgust. “That’s a rock alright.” What kind of joke was this? Did someone know he had been feeling down and given him this to make fun of him? It seemed really childish.
Although, looking at the green stone, something was odd. Edward couldn’t explain it, but the pebble seemed to radiate a mystical force. He could never sense magic before, maybe this was a piece of really powerful magic. What seemed like a joke might be an extraordinary gift! The again…it might also be a trick planted by the enemy! No….wait, that couldn’t be. No one would be able to sneak into the camp undetected. There were traps set up all around the camp…or so he had heard. No one tells him anything, he just happened to overhear it.
“So if I swallow this, everyone will start showing me the attention I deserve? Seems kind of farfetched…but it couldn’t hurt, I suppose. I swear, though, if this thing gives me a stomachache, I’m finding the one who put it here and gutting them.”
Edward opens his mouth and prepares to toss the pebble in.
