Chapter #4

A Game Of Chance

by: Banana Boat Author IconMail Icon
Wil was stumped. Staring at the two bows laid out before him, he had no idea which one was the Brave and which was the Killer. Normally the two kinds had distinct differences, but these were almost identical. In fact the only thing separating them was that the one of the left had a moon carving onto it's wooden handle.

"Give up yet?" The cheeky thief Matthew was practically grinning from ear to ear as he looked at the crease in Wil's forehead. "You know, if you keep frowning like that it's going to become permanent!"

Wil frowned even more, and he ignored the babbling thief. Oh why had he agreed to take this challenge anyway? Oh ya, it was because he thought every bow of it's own kind looked the same. Boy what a fool he had been.

"Come on guess! Which one is the killer? Don't forget," Matthew smiled innocently as he began to recite the rules of the guess which bow is which game he had slyly asked the archer to play. "If you guess right, I will gladly hand over 10000 coins as a reward AND you can keep the bows. However if you guess wrong.." Matthew put on a silly "evil" expression, "You're in for a punishment of mine."

Wil sighed as he listened to Matthew talk. It was obvious the sneaky little thief had tricked him and set out identical bows. The best chance he had was to guess. At least there was a 50/50 chance..as long as Matthew kept his promises anyway. And so what if Wil guessed wrong. How bad could a punishment coming from someone like him be? Matthew probably make him do something silly like dancing in front of the ladies [Lyn often found this punishment from Matthew very amusing and so did Fiona].

Ah...Fiona. Thinking of her made Wil smile. Even if he guessed wrong, he'd still have a chance of seeing Fiona giggle and laugh. It was rare for him to see such a sight normally - the young Pegasus knight was awfully bashful around men and archers. Considering he was both, Will hardly ever had a chance to confront her. But this...

"Alright!" Will straightened up and put on a good show of confidence. "The brave bow is...THIS ONE!" He pointed to the bow without the moon craving and grinned.

"Ahem...is that your final answer?" Matthew looked suspiciously giddy but before Will could speak, he cut him off. "Well too bad if it isn't. There's no changing it. The bow you selected is..."
