Unfamiliar with this town, Kayla wanders around to look for help. It was getting late, so people were off the streets and all the houses were dark. She knew there had to be a police station around. They would be able to help that strange boy and get her home as well.
As she went along a neighborhood of closed houses, she finally saw a young boy all by himself. Kayla called out the boy, "Hey there, please help me!" The boy turned around and stood there, as Kayla approached him. "Please, I was trick-or-treating and I got attacked by this other kid, but now he's hurt and I need to call the police and-"
"You look a bit old to be trick-or-treating," said the boy in a quiet, chilling voice.
Kayla found herself slightly frightened by this younger boy. He was in a cheap glow-in-the-dark skeleton costume, with his skull mask pulled back to reveal dark circles around his eyes and an emotionless face. It reminded Kayla of creepy children in movies like The Shining.
"Ok, but that's not the point!" Kayla exclaimed. "That boy needs help and I need to get back home! I've had enough of this place!"
The boy turned his back and started slowly walking off. After a few steps, he turned his head, "follow me."
As if she had a choice, the teenage girl in her fairy costume followed this strange little boy. He walked slowly by in a consistent manner on the sidewalk. No other people were around, which concerned Kayla. "Why isn't there anyone else out? Where are your parents?"
The boy didn't bother turning around to answer. "They are all in the same place."
Kayla wasn't sure what that meant, but she had a feeling she didn't want to find out. However, she needed to find help, so she bravely went with this disturbing boy. Eventually, they cut through a small, abandoned yard and the boy walked into some woods behind the yard. Not only did it look dark in their, Kayla heard noises that chilled her spine. Owl's hooting, the sound of the breeze creaking along the dead trees, and even the sound of a wolf far off.
"Where does this lead to?" Kayla asked the boy.
"To the adults," the boy answered, once again keeping his back to Kayla. He started walking faster into the woods, with his follower struggling to keep up. Although her pink ballet slippers were cute, they weren't meant for walking around in the woods. A sudden chill came over her, from her tiny little nose down to her stockinged toes. She shivered, wrapping her arms around her to keep warmer. The little boy didn't seem to mind, and kept going through the brush. Kayla swore that he seemed to know exactly where to go, but she started questioning if it was the same place that she had in mind. They walked for what seemed like 10 minutes to her, and she finally decided to say something.
"I think we should turn back now," she said. "We will get lost in here if we-"
Her guide stopped in his tracks for the first time since they reached the woods. "We are almost there," the boy replied in his spine-tingling voice. "Just a little bit further now."
Before Kayla could protest, the boy continued on. Not wanting to get lost, she followed him once again. Another 10 minutes passed by, and the temperature seemed to be gradually dropping to Kayla. She wished she had listened to her mother and brought a jacket to wear. Everything in these woods looked the same, with no distinctive landmarks or signs to point the way.
"How does he know where to go?" Kayla wondered to herself. "And why haven't we seen any animals at all?"
It was true, she had yet to see even a common squirrel or crow. Kayla looked up into the trees. The moon was partly covered in clouds, so little light passed down. They only thing moving were the branches in the wind, the young skeleton boy, and Kayla herself. Now she was starting to get frightened. "It's time to turn back," she thought, then looked back in front of her, only to see the little boy was nowhere in sight.
Kayla's heart started to pound. "Little boy? Where are you?" she said. She rushed to the last spot she had seen him. No footprints were there, nor was their any sign of their ever being someone else around. "Please little boy, this isn't funny!" she screamed. "Don't leave me out here alone!"
Then she froze; a distant noise reached her ears. It wasn't the sound of footsteps, but something was out there. Completely paralyzed with fear, Kayla stood there, waiting to hear the noise again. It came almost as fast as it went, the rustling of bushes in front of her. Something was coming her way.
"He...hhee...hellllloo?" she asked in a frightened tone. Nothing answered back. "Is someone there?" she asked again. Silence greeted her once more. Kayla was unsure if she should investigate, but her legs refused to comply. Then, the bushes rustled again, and Kayla screamed and moved back. She proceeded to turn around and run, but something struck her in the head, and all went dark....
Kayla groans, regaining her consciousness. Whatever had hit her had knocked her out completely, and she felt groggy, unable to make out her surroundings at first. Finally, she comes to it and.....
