"Oh." Stupid big city traffic.
"Yeah, I can stay here until you pick me up."
"OK, see you soon too, Uncle Junpei. Byeee."
Well that was a bit of a bummer. She'd kinda been hoping to start this vacation off right but Atlanta had other things to say about that. Now the question was, what to do in the meantime.
Her stomach grumbled an answer to her. Going from Japan to America was a LONG flight and she didn't have much of a way to pay the flight attendant for refreshments. Or at least... she didn't think she did. In any case, she was starving and couldn't wait until her Uncle got here to eat.
Luckily, like most airports, this one was stocked with a large food court for flight passengers. And like a greasy angel from above, she could always trust the welcoming golden arches of McDonald's. The name may be difficult to read, English wasn't her best subject, but you could always recognize the logo.
Walking to the front counter, she did notice a small problem. She normally ordered a kid's meal, but that was difficult to do when you changed the language. Buuut... she could count on English. And they had a lovely menu board with pictures of food and large numbers she could recognize. And was she not grown up enough for a grown-up combo? No toy, unfortunately, but she was proud of the ingenuity of her plan.
Keeping it simple, she ordered a number one, number two, and number three. Simple enough. Her parents had been kind enough to provide her with an American credit card too, just in case she needed to buy something. It may be a tad much, but a little known secret was that she absolutely loved fast food. Nobody had to know she ate all that.
When her order got there, though, she realized she MAY have made a mistake. Combos weren't just the pictures shown on the menu board. Four burgers (since the number two had two burgers), three drinks, and more fries than she'd ever expected. What did her mom always say about her eyes being bigger than her stomach?
She cautiously peeked around the corner as if someone might be watching her. She couldn't waste all this food. She WOULDN'T waste all this food. Three drinks, that was one for her and both Uncle Junpei and his wife. She'd eat what she could and bag up what she couldn't. Though she still had to eat a lot, just so her Uncle didn't ask her why she had all this food.
Twenty minutes later, she was feeling pretty sorry for herself. This was a bad idea. This was a terrible, terrible idea. She had succeeded in eating a large amount of the food, but at the cost of her own well-being. She was feeling quite ill to her stomach. But at least there wouldn't be any unwanted questions.
Startling her from her food-induced stupor, her pocket began vibrating urgently. A text message! She grabbed the phone and clicked it on with a speed that surely must be world record pace. Guilt did fun things with your reflexes.
