Shikamaru walked into the restaurant with the usual look of disdain on his face.
"I knew you'd be here." Shikamaru said in his cold voice to Naruto. He crossed the floor to an open seat by the blonde at the counter.
"Hey Shikamaru what's up!?" Naruto shouted to the member of squad 10. Shikamaru leaned in closer to Naruto fixing his eyes on Naruto's.
“Keep it down will you. I need you to be 100% serious o.k. Naruto? “He asked soundly. Naruto's faced turned solemn and focused, he nodded his head.
Shikamaru seeing this began, "Naruto haven't you noticed that all of the women around town are looking..." he struggled for the word, "Healthier?"
"What?" Naruto asked innocently, not getting Shikamaru's point.
“You know,” Shikamaru began again “…Thicker?”
“Oh hell yeah I have!” Naruto shouted and began making motions with his hands .Bringing them to his chest he said “Your just finding out about these huh Shikamaru?” He said gleefully.
"Man what a pain…" Shikamaru sighed to himself. “Look around Naruto!" he commanded steering Naruto's attention towards the attendants of the diner. Keeping his voice to a whisper he said " I meant chunkier… fatter. I don't think a single female diner here weighs less than 81kg (180 lbs)
Naruto had to admit that a lot of the patrons of the restaurant did look a little on the thicker side, but didn’t see what the big deal was, in fact he had to admit he thought the girls of the restaurant looked pretty sexy with the extra weight…
“What!” Naruto said loudly cracking up into a laugh, “That's what you were so worked up about? You really had me going there Shikamaru! Listen when things are peaceful between the nations like this, of course the people of the land are going to prosper you know?” Naruto said patting his friend on the back roughly.
“Maybe if that wasn't just half the problem Naruto,” Shikamaru continued unfazed. “Listen growth like this is unnatural just alone, but with the fact that it seems to be just the women, and the fact that all the men and women of Konoha act like they haven’t noticed, means something is up. It's like they’re under a city wide genjutsu and don’t realize it! It could be bad news if someone were affecting the people of Konoha unconsciously, who knows what someone could be doing. Are you listening? He asked to Naruto who was showing that he was losing interest.
“Man! You can be real paranoid sometimes Shikamaru. I think you should relax and stop over thinking this. I happen to think it's great!" he said with a big smile. Shikamaru realized he wasn't going to get a different reaction from Naruto then what he got from everyone else he had talked to in the village and decided to leave.
"Just tell me if you find out anything, o.k. Naruto?" Shikamaru said, and with that left the restaurant but not before lighting a cigarette on his way out.
"Orders up Naruto!" said the chef and placed a large bowl of ramen before Naruto before rushing back to the kitchen.
"Oh yeah!" said the ninja and dug into the large bowl if ramen with his usual fervor. So concentrated on his meal was he, that he failed to notice the next customer enter the restaurant. The female's form shadowed over Naruto and his dinner and took a long inhale.
“That smells great!” said the voice emphatically. “I'd like two off what he's having!" she told the chef, who gave a slight look of shock but then a nod as a sign of acknowledgment. Sitting down where Shikamaru had been moments ago, Naruto was surprised to see it was.
