You have an equal chance of finding clues anywhere, so why not start with the hills to the north? They give a good vantage point for any raiders while also offering plenty of slopes to hide.
The distance isn't much, but the rising elevation does take a bit out of you. There are several paths already worn into the hillside by shepards and their flock, allowing you to avoid the high grass and rocky terrain in some parts. As you near the top, however, you stop as a peculiar aroma fills your nostrils.

Hurrying, you reach the top... and see nothing. Well, almost nothing. There are the remains of what appears to be a small campsite. The ashy remains of a controlled fire are just beside the path in a small grassy clearing, and there are several bones picked clean lying near a patch of mud.
