Story 1

Deidre sighed then tearfully turned to you. "We are your real family." she replied, almost sobbing. "The reason this place does not feel like home is because we are not from here."

"We are from another country?" I asked, trying to make sense of everything.

Evan shook his head. "Maybe it would be better if we just show you." he said.

I was about to ask them what they meant but then Evan touched my head and I saw a rush of images fly through my brain, like a terrible memory or a dream...

Lights were flashing and sirens were blaring all around me as I found myself sitting in the middle of a dark, smoke filled corridor somewhere. My leg seemed to have been injured as I could not get myself to stand. People of all descriptions and walks of life were running passed me with a sense of danger and panic clear on all of their faces.

"What... What's happening!?" I asked.

"This is your past." replied Evan's voice. "A past you most likely forgot... please observe."

I began to worry as I could literally smell smoke everywhere and feel the shaking of the floor as the panicked crowd ran passed me. I heard a muffled explosion as it shook the corridor and turned to its source to find a wall of fire quickly surging towards me, taking the people who fell in its path. A scream echoed from my own throat just as someone from the frantic crowd swept me into his arms as he ran with the fire scorching his heels.

"I'm scared." I sobbed. "Please, I don't want to see any more."

"You must, John." replied Deidre's tearful voice. "This is the truth of who you are."

I watched the vision, helpless to stop it with my own mind as I felt myself being carried through a number of halls into a small room where a dozen other people were desperately talking in a language I did not understand. They all fell silent as an ear shattering explosion shook the room.

"Ow!" I complained, holding my hands to my ears. "What was that!?"

Another jolt was felt and a heavy double door sealed the room with a loud hiss, just as a slender woman reached it with a small girl in her arms. She pounded on the glass of the door, tears falling from her face, as a man appeared behind her and began to pound as well. Four men inside the room desperately tried to force the door open but it was to no avail as a smaller explosion shook the room and it moved away from the woman on the other side of the door. As I saw stars through the growing distance between the couple and myself I saw tears running down the man and woman's face as I saw her mouth my name 'John!' Then, I heard myself scream, "Mommy!"

The vision then ended and I found myself back in the living room, shaking and crying from the terrifying experience. It was as if I was actually there. I turned to Evan and Deidre, not knowing what to do or say but gasped as I recognized their faces from the vision.

"It was you two who was trying to get in the room." I said.

"Actually, it was an escape pod." replied Evan. "You see, we are not from this planet."

"Long story short, dear, one of the drive engines on our ship malfunctioned and exploded while we were passing through this sector and we were forced to abandon ship, flee to this world, they call Earth."

I was still very shaken by the vision and brief explanation but I still had my doubts. "Even if I believed all of this, why did you not come looking for me?"

"The escape pods were scattered all over this globe, honey. For us to find you was like looking for a needle in a haystack as we look very similar to the inhabitants of this world." replied mom, crying. "Any technology we brought with us was lost with the mother ship when it exploded, we are marooned here."
