"John, I'm not supposed to tell you this yet but I believe you need to know." said Hayley. she took a breath. "I'm a witch, so is mom, Mel and Hannah will be soon. But don't worry, we're still us inside."
"I'm in a family of witches?" you asked, surprised. "Surely you're not as history depicts..."
Hayley giggled. "No, there are no witch hunters, dunking or any nonsense of the sort." she said. "All that we read about in history was merely people getting rid of those who were in the way or they did not like." she summoned a flame to her hand, causing you to jump, only not scream as she canceled the flame and whispered, "To the point, only girls have these powers but I somehow suspect you have a power of your own."
You nodded and summoned your own flame for a moment. "Remember uncle Jack?" you asked. "He gave me this book on my twelfth birthday, shortly after you had vanished..."
Upon telling Hayley your tale, she gave you a warm hug. "I was privately told of uncle Jack's pseudo magic in witch school, where I was learning control of my magic for a year." she said. "They warned me that uncle Jack may have passed his knowledge on and to be on the look out." she sighed. "I'm glad it was you and not someone else."
Again you nodded. "Uncle Jack and his hologram likeness, who had trained me this previous year, warned me that my science must never fall into the wrong hands." you told her. "I have taken extreme measures to keep my secret safe."
Hayley sighed in relief. "When you say 'extreme', I feel sorry for those it relates to." she said. "Now, I must warn you that Mel and Hannah, when they discover their magic and the fact you can not work it, they will want to toy with you for a while, to see how far they can go with it."
"I think I can handle that." you said with a smile.
Hayley shook her head. "You don't understand, John." she said, seriously. "I too was tempted to toy with you, just for a while, as the more magic is used against you, the more resistant you become to its effects." she sighed. "If you did not have this science, you would not be able to fight back. Mel and Hannah must learn you are not a toy for their amusement merely because you can not work magic."
You rubbed your chin in thought. "My power of science will hinder that lesson." you said, realizing what Hayley was asking of you. "Oh, man, knowing my sisters, I'll end up a little girl for a while!"
Hayley giggled. "Yes, but you can change yourself back at any time, right?"
"I've been turned into a girl with a serum during one of my tests." you replied. "It might have been a potion, if that was what uncle Jack was training me for."
"It most likely was." stated Hayley, wincing. "Uncle Jack and mom did not have the closest of relationships when they were younger."
You sighed. "Very well, I'll play along." you said, not liking the idea. "I guess a little resistance training won't hurt me." rising a finger of warning, you added, "Only, if things start to fall out of control, I will take action, is it a deal?"
Hayley nodded. "Agreed." she said.
Just then, someone cleared their throat. You and Hayley turned to find...
