Hayley knocked on your door. "May I come in?" she asked.
"Yeah." you replied.
Hayley, entered, smiling, closing the door then sat onto the bed next to you. "Okay, Mr. mad scientist, I have a plan to open the test but I'll need you to play along." she said. "Also, I must ask you to be more patient than usual for this as the test could last as long as three weeks."
What!?" you asked, only raising your voice a little. "Why three weeks!?"
Hayley giggled. "That's how long it usually takes a witch boy to develop enough magical resistance to break a magical spell or series of spells, say gender and age change." she explained. "You will end up as 'girl John' but I'm not sure if Mel will want you as a teen or a little girl."
"Great." you mutter. "Will I be able to do the same when its my turn?"
Hayley winced, giving you your answer but she quickly spoke as your face began to harden. "It's nothing personal, John." she said. "You are the only witch boy, we know of, who has this chaotic science. Can you imagine our girl hating cousin, Tim discovering those powers?"
You sighed, wanting to scream, and Hayley gave you a warm hug. "You will have your chance to shine, bro." she said gently. "Only we have to keep it in the family with the exception of maybe Harry and Megan." she sighed, releasing you before adding, "Mel will learn of your powers but you must refrain from changing her. Mom and I are not sure if our magic can counteract it if anything goes wrong. You don't really want Mel to become your brother for life, do you?"
"I guess not." you said, heavy hearted.
Hayley shook her head, knowing you were hating this. "I'll talk to mom, see what she says." she told you. "Maybe you can do something to Mel, if she goes overboard in this test. Just please promise me you'll be patient with us."
You moaned. "Okay, I promise but three weeks is all I will give." you said. "After that, I will take action if you don't."
Hayley smiled. "Done."
After finally convincing you to cooperate for the test, Hayley left your room and walked over to Mel's room and knocked on her open door. "May I come in?" she asked.
Mel nodded and Hayley walked in, smiling as she closed the door and sat onto the bed next to Mel. "It's time I told you where I've been all this time." she said. "I'm a witch, so is mom. I had to go to a special school for a year to learn to control my powers." she produced a test flame, causing Mel to scream before canceling it. "You and Hannah are witches as well but, sadly, only girls have this power, John is not a witch."
Mel's jaw fell open for a moment before she smiled slightly. "Will he be a witch as a girl?"
Hayley grinned. "Yes, John would become a witch if we change him into a girl." she said. "Only, without training, 'she' will not be able to use it very well, it would be weak at best."
Mel's grin broadened. "Can we play a little prank on John?" she asked. "Make him a girl for a while, just for fun?"
"We could, I can teach you how to change him into a girl." said Hayley. "Just remember, we have to change him back eventually unless you want to deal with a angry witch later."
Mel giggled, thinking that an angry witch would be 'girl John', not realizing Hayley was referring to mom. "Okay, so we just keep him a girl for a while. How can we do this?"
"We can't just change him, he'll pound us for that when he is changed back." said Hayley. "We have to trick him into allowing the change."
"How about a bet over a game of air hockey." suggested Mel. "I'm sure you haven't told any of this to John yet."
"No, I haven't as he might freak." replied Hayley. "I think we should play on his curiosity rather than trick him into a bet."
Mel giggled. "He is a curious one." she said, smiling. "I still like the hockey bet idea better."
Which approach do Mel and Hayley decide on?
