Hayley ran out of the living room, up the stairs, to her mother's bedroom, tears flowing from her eyes. She had just returned home from one year of training in the art of witchcraft and she had already broke the most important rule, never reveal your secret to a male sibling.
"Mom!" she yelled, entering the room, gripping your book.
"Hayley!" said your mother, turning to greet her. she paused, becoming concerned.. "Hayley? Why are you crying?"
Hayley told her mother what had happened and gave her your book. She looked at it then gave a low giggle and hugged her.
"I know, dear." she said. "I knew about this for a long time now."
Now Hayley was confused. "What!?!"
Your mother giggled again. "Think back to your training, dear." she said. "What is Pseudo Magic?"
Hayley thought for a moment. "It's a term used in the witch's world." she said. "It's a science so advanced that it literally becomes magic."
"Correct." said your mother, smiling. "Your uncle Jack was a master of Pseudo magic. He passed his book onto John a few days after you left, with my permission. He told John not to tell anyone about it, especially not me until he was ready. I have been secretly watching and guiding John from a loving distance."
"You don't seem very concerned about this." said Hayley.
"Because it's very rare." replied your mother. "Only one out of every 100,000 boys born into a witch family possesses the talent and only one out of that number, world wide, become powerful enough to match a witch. Jack had that talent. Your grandmother trained him and, in time, he crossed the threshold."
"The threshold?"
"The point where science literally becomes magic." said your mother. "At that point, Jack became a girl."
Hayley paused, thinking about it then laughed. "Aunt Jackie!"
Your mother laughed with her. "Precisely. John is close to crossing that threshold himself. But now that you have discovered his secret, he no doubt very scared and confused." she sighed. "I will have to have a friendly talk with him, otherwise, he may not continue his practice and that would be such a sad waste of his talents."
