Neither of you were willing to talk as you and Hayley did not know where to start or how the other would react to the news of her or your powers. You suspected that at least one person inside the house had power similar to your own, the 'magic' book you found and left in the living room proved it. However, you were at a loss as to who it might have been and you were not about to guess.
"This is so frustrating!" you thought. "I can't just blurt out, Hey, Hayley, I'm a chaotic scientist, are you a witch?" you looked at Hayley and let out a low sigh, which she noticed, then thought, "I have to get away, for now, and consult uncle Jack's files... maybe there is an answer there."
Hayley had seen some of your power but was at a complete loss as to how you came to have it or how you could have read the magic book at all. She suspected that you had gained your power from some other, unknown means, but it was beyond her power to imagine where and she was not about to guess.
"This is so damn frustrating!" she thought. "I can't just tell him that I'm a witch and demand, or even ask, where the hell he got HIS powers from as boys can't work magic!" she let out a low sigh of her own, which you noticed, then thought, "I have to get away from him, for now, and talk to mom... maybe she has some answers."
"Um... I have to laundry now." you said. "I've been doing it to take some of the work load off of mom." you paused, seeing her surprised look and wondered if it was a mistake to say that. "Do you have any laundry, I'll get yours done first, if you like."
"Um... yeah." replied Hayley. "she handed you a small duffel bag she had sitting with her luggage. "Thanks."
You nodded, taking the duffel bag and sadly walked away from her, towards the basement stairs. As Hayley watched you leave, she remembered finding it strange when mom mentioned that you started doing the laundry, shortly after she had left for her training. It caused her to think that the answer to the mystery lied somewhere in the basement. She did not dare go down there just yet as she did not want a fight between her and you. She decided it best to talk to mom first and see what other strange things you had been doing while she was gone.
"I have to know what he's up to." she thought. "I'd better watch him carefully for a while."
With that, she sadly walked towards the stairs, picking up her luggage, and went up, into her room. It was just as she had left it with the exception of welcome home cards from you, Mel, Hannah, and mom. She grinned at them and read the one from you first. Sadly, there were no clues inside. Frustrated and worried, she left her room and walked towards mom's bedroom. On the way there, she saw Mel and Hannah. She stopped, giving them each a warm hug, then asked them if they had any clues to your odd behavior.
"Sorry, Hayley." said Mel. "I'm just as much in the dark as you are." she frowned. "I went to the basement and searched it several times but found nothing suspicious."
"I searched through John's room a few times." added Hannah. "He yelled at me for it." he began to tear up. "I didn't find anything, Hayley... I'm worried about him."
"So am I." admitted Hayley. then she thought, "Moe than you know."
Hayley finally excused herself then knocked on mom's door. "Mom, it's me, Hayley!" she said.
"Come in, dear." came mom's concerned voice.
Hayley walked in and immediately noticed that mom was worried about you as well.
