Edward Fink hated hospitals; he hated them with a burning passion. He hated the white walls, the florescent lights, the smell of antiseptic, and the constant beeping of machines. He'd been here far more often than he wanted to over the years and lost one to many when he wasn't the one being treated.
Today was different however, he was the one being treated, and soon enough he'd be joining mother, father, and little sister in the afterlife.
With all the smoking and drinking and hard drugs he'd consumed over the years, he never thought he would live to be this old. He never thought for a second he would outlive everyone else from his era. How on god's green earth did he ever make it to a hundred?
Edward didn't know and right now he really didn't care. His still living family and their friends that knew him had come and gone and now he was all alone laid up with a breathing mask and the sound of a heart monitor filling the air.
He was dying and this is where it would end for him, alone in the hospital just like everyone else he grew up with. That fact saddened him just as much as it pissed him off. He didn't want to die alone in a hospital surrounded by white walls and orderlies. No, if he was going to die, he'd rather it be on the road behind his 1951 Hudson Hornet. But like with so many of his things he left it to his great granddaughter in his will. Hopefully she would treat it as well as he did.
The elderly man sighed. This wasn't how he wanted things to end. He wanted more time. Why couldn't father time take pity on him and turn back the clock? He missed being able to sprint and jump without his back hurting and he missed being able to eat fast food with his actual teeth. At least he never lost his twenty-twenty vision. That was something, right?
"I wish I was young again?" Edward sighed through his mask.
He could feel it now. The reaper was coming for him. His vison began to blur, and he felt so tired. More so than he had over the last decade or so.
He could see his life flashing before his eyes. He could see his family, his friends, where he'd been and where he was going. He let out a long and tired breath before he shut his eyes and let the darkness take him.
When next he awoke, his life would change forever.
