You and Mom Both Move in with Your Mother's Friend

"Would you stop calling Daniel a baby!" your mother exclaims.

"What, he is a big baby, he doesn't want to go to boarding school or even go to a traditional high school since he's too scared to move away from his mommy," your father says, sounding irritated by both you and your mother.

"He's still just a little boy, of course he doesn't want to be away from me!" replies your mother. You wanted to interject again that you are not little but didn't this time.

"He's never going to grow up with you coddling him like that," your father says, "you may as well put him back in diapers and treat him like a baby!"

"It's very unhealthy for him to be away from his mother!"

"It's very unhealthy to not mature!"

Your parents' shouting competition continues for a while before you finally decide to go up to your room as there seemed to be no end in sight. This wasn't the first time this had happened, nor was it one of the few. Your parents have yelled at each other for as long as you could remember, so it's not like you're not used to it. They would go back to loving and kissing each other the next day, and then get into another argument, as they always did.

Finally, after over an hour, you hear a knock on your door before it opens revealing both of your parents. "Me and your mother have reached a compromise, Daniel," your father says as both he and your mom walk over to your bed and sit down next to you on it. Even though neither of them is yelling anymore, you can still feel the wave of tension that has now entered the room.

"You're going to live with my friend and go to the school in her town, but because we both understand that you're scared to leave home, I'm going to be going with you also," says your mother.

"You're going to quit your job?" you ask.

"I'm going to take a leave of absence," says your mother.

"Is it really okay for you to just move away from dad?"

"It's only until your mother sees that you can get by without her. Ms. Thompson will be your mother figure there and she can take care of you," says your father.

"But still," you begin, "it's going to be awkward living with people that I barely know. Don't I get a say in this?"

Your dad then gives a certain look to your mom. Your mom seems to understand what this look means and replies to you: "Honey, your father and I have decided that this is what's best for you in our current situation and you are just going to have to accept it."

A few weeks later, near the end of summer vacation, your dad drops you and your mom off to the train station. Your dad seems to be in a good mood today and tells you that he knows you'll thank him for this later and that you will succeed at high school. He kisses your mother and wishes the both of you a farewell and says that he'll see you on your Christmas vacation.

During the beginning of the train ride, your mother tells you about Ms. Thompson and how such good friends they were during college. You were largely uninterested but listened to what stories that your mom had to tell for quite some time. Eventually though, during the several-hour long ride, your mother falls asleep while you read some of your comic books.

Does something noteworthy happen on the ride or do you both reach your destination uneventfully?
