Play games

    by: lifewin Author IconMail Icon
You start to play games on your computer but within 15 minutes you mom knocks on your door, "Are you job searching," is called through the door. You scramble and close the game.

"Yes, I am," well you better get onto job searching. Opening up local job boards, indeed, LinkedIn, Craigslist you scroll through. You look for about an hour, leaving tabs open of jobs which you are interested in and which you have generally met the qualification requirements. Eventually you have a list.

First, there is a position for nursing home care assistant, hours are full time, salaried at $35k a year with a small benefits package. Not necessarily the most interesting, but you meet the qualifications. The job doesn't sound difficult or stressful, the posting mentions room for upward mobility and eventually moving into a management position in hospitality is interesting to you.

Second, is book keeper at a baby and adult medical supply store. You have taken tax accounting courses and could easily meet the qualifications for a basic certificate of tax and business accounting for this small business. The pay is $38k a year and the description does mention it will include some internal business analysis, and sales roles on top of the audit job. You know little to nothing of the product area but the audit role is a great initial experience to continue a career in accounting, business development, or future business account managing within banking. The posting says no benefits outside of a sick pay package but due to the small business nature they offer 20 days of paid vacation off the bat. Significantly more than the 10 offered by the nursing home.

There are a few more options that you see, including but not limited to babysitting, product testing, middle school aged home-school teacher, independent construction contracting for a small home renovation, and more. Do you apply for the first two jobs, focusing on one specifically, or do you consider and reading into the posting for the other positions first?
