Chapter #4Family man, no more. by: Bird Dateline: A local Payless ShoeSource, August 20XX
Subject is was called Sean [REDACTED]. He was out shopping for new school shoes for his two daughters, Isabel and Amy. While doing so, he accidentally breathes in [CONFIDENTIAL], causing his size to reduce, randomly changing within a size range of 6 inches to 1/16th and inch. Here is his story:
"Come on girls, just pick a pair or two. Your mom is just around the corner, and she doesn't want to spend all day here," Sean said to his two little angels. They both nodded, and excitedly ran off. Sean sat down on one of the provided benches, and smiled. Those two were the most adorable things. As he waited, he noticed a woman dressed in a business suit running down the aisle. She was carrying a bottle of crystal, which held a green liquid inside. She ran was running right towards him. He looked at the floor. Amy, bless her little heart, had left her ratty old sandals in the middle of the floor.
"Hey miss, you might want to be careful. You could trip." She jumped in surprise, not realizing anyone was there.
"Yeah, thanks. But I have to go." She was looking around, clearly on edge. Was she being followed?
"Are you okay, miss? You don't look well."
As she started to turn around, she let out a scream. Down the aisle was a rather large man, more muscle than anything.
"Give us the bottle," he said, although grunted would be a more accurate description.
He advanced towards them. She started to back away, but Sean was too shocked to move. Was this man going to hurt her?
The woman grabbed at the bottle. Sean didn't notice before, but it had a sprayer on the end. "Stand back," she said, her voice shaking. "I don't want to do this." The man, clearly not impressed, continued to walk towards her.
"I'm so sorry," she screamed as she sprayed the brute. Sean was hit in the blast too, getting soaked with the fluid. He looked up, but the woman was gone. The world began to spin, and everything became dark.
Sean awoke with a pounding headache, and a odd feeling in his gut, similar to vertigo. He looked around, and immediately was alert. The world had grown. The stool had had once sat on now towered over him like a skyscraper. Sean was a quick thinker, and he remembered the spray and the apologetic woman. That must have been the cause of this!
Sean needed to find her, but his eyes locked on a more pressing problem. The brute was shrunken too, and he was just getting up. If that wall of a man saw Sean, who could know what anger he would unleash. Sean's fears began to materialize as the brute peered up, and saw him. He began to trudge towards Sean, anger glowing in his dim eyes.
"Where'd ya go, Daddy?" Both Sean and the wannabe Hulk looked up towards the source of the godly sound. Turning the corner and walking towards them was the colossal form of the 6 year old Amy. Even the moronic mind of the brute could see the danger in each step of the football-field sized pink socks that got closer every breath. The poor brute tried to run, but each step of the kindergartner could cover a marathon. Too far away to hear his scream, Sean only could watch as the foot of his precious little girl lowered onto the former giant. Sean watched as the toes, each bigger than his half-inch tall body, landed on him. His body was no match, snapping in half as the step was completed. The horrific display lasted only a moment, but it felt forever to Sean. It showed him the true horrors of this size, and he understood why the woman seemed so, so sorry.
This emotional conflict was unknown to Amy. She did feel the blood seep through her sock, and since she had picked her new shoes, she took them off. Looking at the bottom of the sock, Amy let out a little cry. She wasn't a cruel girl, and even though it was only a bug (well, to her knowledge), she still felt bad about crushing it. She tossed the messed socks onto the bench, turned around and walked away to go find Kim.
Sean finally snapped out of his emotional meltdown. He needed a plan, and he didn't have one. He could climb on Amy's sandals, which were left discarded nearby. It was dangerous, but if he survived he was guaranteed a ride home. He could also try and find one of his girls in the store. Isabel would no doubt still be looking for shoes, and Kim would be somewhere. Or, he could just wait here until something happens. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
