Jaime was calling Cathy because they set up a "week long vacation". Jaime and Cathy owned the whole building and had created a business out of renting their apartments out to strangers for enough to make a profit off of it. Cathy would do everything, including taking care of Jaime for the week. Even though the renter would think Jaime was out on their own vacation they would really be tied up in the secret basement apartment that was only accessible from the first story apartment. Cathy lived on the second story apartment that also had a secret stairway to the first story apartment. Jaime lived on the third story apartment on purpose, the renters would be too far from the action to hear anything, plus Jaime would not make too much noise anyway. Cathy would feed Jaime three times a day and had free reign to do whatever she wanted with her
