This choice: During school, Cat decides to show Marlene how much of a bitch she really is • Go Back...Chapter #7Gentle as a Kitten. by: Ëtalfni There was a spring in Cat's step today, a feeling she hadn't had in a long time. Indeed it had been awhile since she was actually looking FORWARD to school instead of dreading its very existence. Either it was the magic of the coin, if there were such a thing, or a late growth spurt. Either way, Cat was noticeably bigger all around. So much so that her clothes were a little tight on her, but still not unwearable.
She hummed her way through breakfast and almost forgot to say goodbye to her parents before taking off to the bus, though her mother seemed to eye her the whole time with both a look of suspicion and amusement.
An hour later, she practically ran towards the school looking for Tandy to tell her the good news. She was in such a hurry that she mistakenly ran into someone, and knocked their books over.
Springing instantly to her feet with an unusual amount of agility, she apologized. "Oh crap! I'm sorry about that! I didn't see you and was in a hurry, my ba-"
She stopped, for it was Alex who she knocked over! He chuckled. "It's alright Cat, no harm done."
Blushing, she tried to give a reply. "U-uh huh. W-well, a-again I'm sorry..."
Alex eyed her curiously. "Say, you look different. Did you get a haircut or something?"
She took a deep breath. "Yesididnowifyouexcusemeireallygottaberunningalexokaysorryagainbye." And in instant she ran for the doors of the school.
Alex blinked several times. "Huh. Well that was sure weird."

Tandy laughed at Cat over lunch. "So you ran right into him!? Smooth, girl. Real smooth." She took another sip of her coffee while Cat sat there blushing. "By the way, did you get a haircut or something? You look different."
That's right! The thoughts of the coin had completely slipped her mind the entire day. "Oh right! I forgot to show you."
She reached into her pocket and pulled out the silver coin with a cat on it, gently placing it in Tandy's palm. The goth stared at it, trying to figure it out before saying.
"It's a coin so what?"
"My mom left it on the bed last night. I don't know what's up about it, but when I woke up," She gestured to her chest. "I was 'bigger' for some reason."
Tandy snapped her fingers. "THAT'S it! You look bigger, and not just there. Here stand up for a sec."
Cat obeyed, and was stunned by what she saw. Normally Tandy was a good few inches taller than her. Today, they were exactly the same height, a little more than 5'4 each. Tandy reached up at the top of her head.
"How about that, even exactly. And that's not all! Look at your nails."
Cat hadn't even noticed the sharpened points on her nails all day! They almost looked like... "...Claws?"
Tandy chuckled. "Feeling catty today, Cat?" She held up the coin, the picture of the cat beamed in the reflection of light.
"Okay...Now that I think about it, that's really weird. Do you think...Do you think the coin had anything to do with it?"
Tandy flipped the coin back to Cat. "You know me Cat. I don't believe in that hocus pocus, mumbo jumbo stuff. Still there's always such a thing as a good luck charm. Why not hold onto it and see what happens tomorrow? Who knows? Maybe you're really be a Cat-girl." She grinned.
"Yeah...A Cat-girl..."

The bell for gym rang, Cat's least favorite period. Marlene ALWAYS loved to pick on her with a practical joke. One time, she and a few other girls were able to steal her clothes from her locker and toss them in the boy's locker room. Cat was a little too deep in thought to notice that Marlene and a group of sophomores were snickering as she made her way to her locker. She opened the door.
PLUOSH! Someone had jammed a hose through the back of the locker wall and into Cat's locker! Water poured out like a fire hose, getting Cat soaked.
"Gah! Hey! Stoppit!" She cried out to no avail, getting thrown to the floor due to the pressure.
Finally one of the girls in the group had the kindness to turn off the hose, but Cat was still the laughing stock of the locker room. All of her homework and books were completely soaked and ruined. As she coughed out some of the water in her lungs, Marlene walked over to her and sneered. Cat returned a glare. The bitch had gone a little too far this time.
Slowly, a pent up anger rose to a boiling point. A red hot flare filled Cat's head and she stood up to face Marlene. The girl was still a good few inches taller than Cat and didn't feel threatened, returning the glare. Smugness was in her eyes. Cat filled them. She hated everything about that stupid bitch. This was just stepping over the line now.
Without thinking, Cat took a swipe at Marlene's face, expecting only to give her a small scratch.
Instead, blood poured in the air and Marlene cried in pain. Where Cat's fingernails had hit was thee gigantic slash marks going down her right cheek, blood was seeping everywhere. Tears were welling in Marlene's eyes.
"Owww y-you little witch! What the hell did you do that for!? OWW! It hurts! It hurts!"
Their other classmates were rushing to Marlene's aid, the sophomores were all giving Cat some really nasty looks. She got scared, she didn't mean to hurt Marlene! She just snapped, it was an innocent mistake right!? However, the blood all over the floor told a different story. Sensing danger, Cat ran out of the locker room, trying to get away. About this time, she started crying herself.

Outside the office was a phone booth, where students could make private calls. It was an ideal hiding spot, especially if you wanted to be alone. Cat sat on the bench, quietly sobbing; she was drenched in wet clothes and had blood on her fingers. She'd be lucky enough not to get expelled after something like this! Everyone saw what happened, Cat attacked Marlene first. No one was going to believe she didn't purposely mean to hurt her.
Today started out great, and now was looking absolutely terrible. So much for showing off to Tandy and Marlene.
As Cat wiped her nose, there was a tap on the glass door that startled her. Someone was outside the phone booth! It was... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
