"Well, I got this far." you said, rolling your eyes. "I might as well play along."
Mom giggled. "Don't worry, I'll change you back before you have to go back to school." she promised.
"It's Friday afternoon!" you protested. "Are you saying that you're going to keep a girl all weekend!?!"
"Well, you can't expect to learn much magic in just one afternoon." said mom, grinning. "Besides, you look cute this way."
You glared at mom, angry with her, but it got you nowhere so you finally sighed in surrender. "Fine." you said. "Just don't make me all girly."
Mom shook her head. "Sorry, Mat." she said. "You know I do not allow tomboys in this house..."
"No way am I wearing a dress!" you yelled, alarmed.
Mom sighed, patiently. "You will have to, at least, wear a skirt." she said.
"How about a pair of skorts." you suggested, more calmly.
Mom shook her head. "It's either skirts or dresses." she said, firmly. "I can not play favorites." she then frowned. "If you do not pick, I will have to pick for you."
Of course, unknown to you, mom did not want to force you. She was hoping that she could draw out the curious side of you so that you would willingly put on a skirt and, eventually, a dress under your own free will. "What shall it be?"
Knowing that your mom was serious, you let out a low sigh, tearing up. "This is so humiliating!" you whispered.
"A girl wearing a skirt or dress is far from humiliating, Mat." said mom, seriously. "Do you seriously think we girls would wear something that made us feel uncomfortable?"
"I guess not." you said, blushing. "But I have the mind..."
"The mind of a boy, yes, I know." said mom, interrupting. "But this is the only way for you to try your hand at magic."
You weighed the options in your mind then, slowly, reluctantly, nodded. "I'll wear the skirt." you said, finally, grudgingly. "But that's as far as I'll go. I'm trying magic here, not the life of a girl."
"It comes with the package, Mat." countered mom. "By the way, we will need a new name for you while you are a girl."
"A new name?" you asked, looking sick. "What for?"
"Witches have to keep a low profile, Mat." explained mom. "As you said, you had come this far..."
You sighed, again rolling your eyes. "Okay, what did you have in mind?"
"Oh, you want me to pick?" asked mom, grinning. "Thank you!"
You turned white with shock but before you could protest, mom asked, "What do you think about Mary Lucy Harrison?"
"Fine." you said, sighing again. "It's just for the weekend, right?"
"I never break my word, Mat." said mom, smiling. "You will be a boy again before you go back to school."
You shrugged, knowing that there was no out of this now and asked, "So, what do we do first?"
Mom giggled then changed your ill fitting boy's clothing to a skirt and blouse combo. "First, I will..."
