You and your sisters watched in both awe and terror as John summoned a pyrokinetic flame to his hand and mom conjured a magical flame to hers. The two circled each other slowly, revealing nothing in their expressions, as the duel began and they started to exchange energy blasts. John was fast with his attacks but mom effortlessly dodged them, throwing attacks of her own while defending.
"Mom is good." you whispered, seeing her fight. "How can she move so fast on high heels?"
Julie smiled. "Practice." she replied, quietly. "Maybe later, I'll give you some lessons."
Sarah giggled at that but you ignored them, worried for mom and uncle John. "My family is tearing itself apart over my having this power." you thought. "What am I going to do?"
Unknown to you, Hannah had learned of your power over a week ago and had throttled John at his home before dragging him before the witch court where she learned that John was ordered by them to pass his knowledge on to you."
"We are sorry we did not involve you in this decision, Mrs Cutie." said Hayley, the head of the witch council. "Mom, err, the head witch, saw Mat as the most worthy to receive John's knowledge so we can study how it works and why."
"So, you decided that my son should be your little guinea pig!?" asked mom, furious.
"Not a guinea pig, Hannah." said Natalie, appearing in the room. "The first to be freely given the title of pseudo witch as only boys deemed worthy by me and the council shall receive the knowledge."
"However, as Mat learned his chaotic science, becoming a pseudo witch, we have been watching carefully his progress, learning how it works." said Hayley. "We were all shocked and relieved to discover that it mirrors magic. the only real difference is the requirement of a high tech laboratory to train as the power is science based."
Returning her mind to the present, mom locked hands with John, sharing an unseen smile. "What do you think, sis?" asked John, quietly. "Win or lose?"
Hannah grinned. "I can't lose in front of my daughters, bro." she whispered.
To you, mom and John were struggling, sending random spells and events, technological spells, all over the room. Fortunately, Julie, being a fully trained witch, had a magical shield up, protecting herself as well as you and Sarah.
"This is getting intense." she whispered. "If they both get angry..."
"The failsafe will be triggered." said Sarah with a moan. "Can you handle two fighting three year olds, Julie?"
Julie shook her head. "My magic is not strong enough to override the failsafe." she said. "We'd have to call either grandma or great aunt Catherine to do it and I doubt they'd be in any hurry."
As you continued to watch with your sisters, mom and John continued to talk. "If he doesn't interfere soon, I'll have to make you my 'little' sister for a while." whispered mom, playfully.
"Well, lets hope he does." replied John, whispering as well. "Otherwise, Megan will never let me live it down."
The duel, as you noticed, escalated even more as mom and John broke free from each others grasp and started to throw more powerful spells. "This is getting out of hand!" you thought, tearing up. "I have to do something!"
