Grace Stevens had lost everything that mattered to her. When she was fifty her husband and three children had been killed in a car accident. Two years later she was still mourning their loss deeply. She had withdrawn from the world and spent most of her days in her house crying. Her friends tried to reach out to her from time to time but she shrugged off their attempts, so they continued to wait for her to be ready.
Then the wise old mother of one of Grace's friends stepped in. She went to Grace and asked her if she would do anything to get her family back. When Grace told her she would the old woman gave her a special pair of panties and told her to wear them.
Thomas and Catherine were the kindest people you might possibly meet. They cared deeply for each other and were always quick to help their neighbours. They had worked hard all their lives, and had enriched the lives of others, but there was one thing that had been unable to achieve. Now in their sixties, they had never been able to have a child. To bring a new person into the world and raise them to be a good person was a joy that had been denied them.
Then one day Catherine helped a complete stranger with an important task. The stranger knew what Catherine wanted most, and gave her a means to achieve it.
