Rachel and Olivia were two sisters, aged 14 and 11 respectively. They were close to each other, and both fairly smart, but beyond that they were nothing particularly remarkable. Rachel loved science and was often in her room reading about advanced chemistry or physics. Olivia was more into reading and drawing, and was more frequently seen at the library than anywhere else. Both were, consequently, not exactly the most popular girls in their school. Rachel was certainly good-looking enough to attract a significant amount of attention from boys, but she didn't want a relationship - she just wanted to focus on her studies. In fact her well-developed body only made the bullying worse, as everyone knows that jealous girls can be the meanest.
Sometimes both girls had been bullied physically, with neither of them being particularly tall or sporty or strong. Both Rachel's high school and Olivia's middle school knew about it, but not a lot was done, as the bullies and their families were fairly well-connected within the schools. Rachel and Olivia's parents both worked long hours, making it difficult for them to intervene as well.
The trade-off of having little time with their children was that Rachel and Olivia's parents actually made a decent salary. Josh, their father, was a salesman who often travelled the world. Their mother, Nicole, was a manager at a local factory. They liked to spoil their kids whenever they had a chance, and nothing made them prouder than to see them grow into such amazing young women. For Rachel they often bought new science kits and rare materials for her to experiment with. For Olivia, they bought her all the books and art supplies she could use.
And sometimes, when they were all together, they liked to take them out to shop for nice clothes, or have some fun at the park, or as was the case on this particular evening, to go out to a fancy restaurant.
"Fancy" was almost an understatement. Situated on the waterfront, the restaurant was one of the most prestigious in the world. The whole family were wearing their best clothes and still had to resolve not to buy most of the items on the menu, because even though the family was quite well-off, they were not rich enough for that place. Even the atmosphere inside the restaurant seemed to smell of wealth, all kinds of the richest people congregating there to make billion-dollar deals after all.
After some hushed discussion, Rachel and Olivia both insisted on having a drink other than water. Josh chuckled to himself and bought them both the next-least expensive thing - glasses of milk - annoying both of his daughters, as Olivia had actually wanted a fruit juice and Rachel something alcoholic.
"This better be the best milk I've ever had in my life" laughed Olivia.
"Come on, milk's good for you" retorted Josh.
The restaurant did not take long at all in serving the meals, all of which, despite their being among the cheapest on the menu, looked more divine than almost anything any of them had ever eaten. Next to it, the glasses of milk for Rachel and Olivia, and the glasses of water for Josh and Nicole (despite the fancy glasses it was served in) were positively boring.
