Kayla and Mark had been married for several years, and it seemed that lately all they had been doing was arguing. Kayla wanted to bring a child into their family, but Mark was quite insistent that they weren't ready for such a big commitment.
"A child is a permanent decision, you can't get rid of a child," Mark argued. "What happens if the child is mentally or physically handicapped? We can't afford to care for a child with those intense special needs. Or worse, what if the child is a psychopath and tries to kill us in our sleep?"
"You're being absurd, Mark," Kayla replied. "We have enough money and a big enough house. I want a family."
"But we already are a family," Mark answered. "You, me, and Felix."
Felix looked up from the bed. He stood up, stretched his paws forward and then hopped off the bed in search of his litter box.
"I would be a good mother," Kayla sighed as she turned away from Mark.
"I'm sure you would be, but I just don't think we're ready," Mark said as he hugged Kayla.
Mark kissed Kayla on the forehead as she buried her face into his chest. She sniffled a bit as Mark rubbed her back.
"I wish I could show you how good of a mother I would be," Kayla whispered.
The amulet around Kayla's neck began to glow bright red. Mark stepped back and gasped as he watched the amulet.
"What's happening? Where did you get that amulet?" Mark screamed.
"I don't know, I bought it at the thrift store today," Kayla yelled as she clawed at the amulet.
