Chapter #4
Why doesn't she remember me?
by: Unknown
"Why doesn't she remember me?" you hear your 'husband' ask sounding genuinely concerned "Is she brain damaged? Will she get better?"
"I appreciate it must be upsetting for you to see your wife this way Mr Muller" the doctor tells him calmly "but our tests show there are no serious physical injury we expect a full recovery in time."
"But she seems so confused, almost like a different person" the older man objects "how can you be certain?"
"Some temporary amnesia is actually quite common in these situations" the doctor explains " your wife's is a little unusual in the degree of memory loss but considering the circumstances of her accident, the young man that died, the shock she must have suffered it is not surprising her mind has taken action to protect itself."
"So you really think it's best I take her home today?"
"Yes I do" he confirms "familiar surroundings and the support of friends and family really are the best treatment in this case. Try and re-establish her normal routine as much as possible, keep her calm and be patient and I'm confident your wife will come back to you. I have some literature for you to read that will be helpful...."
The conversation fades from your hearing as the two men move off down the corridor and you retreat back to your bed. You stare down at the large mounds pushing out the front of your hospital gown and shake your head. Could this really be real, are you truly this Jessica woman and your conviction that you are really a man is just some trauma induced delusion? It certainly seems more plausible than than the alternative, still you can’t shake the conviction that this is not your body. You return to looking at the stranger in the mirror trying to finding something, anything, familiar in her pretty face but your memory remains blank.
With a sigh you try and think about what to do, should you go with your husband and hope things start to come back to you or try and find out more on your own?
