"Wait..." you say. "What the heck's going on?"
"Do you mind if I explain in the hot spring?" Sarina asks, batting her eyes.
"Okay," you say.
The spring was especially warm, which felt really good. Sarina used this opportunity to nuzzle up to you, letting out a few purrs. "You see," she begins, "When I first met you, I thought you were pretty cute. I wasn't attracted to you, but you were really fun to play games with when we were younger. I always looked forward to your visits. Then, when I was nine, I started developing a little crush on you. I started dropping off little hints of my attraction since then."
"Like what?" you ask, not recalling any of these "hints."
"Well, remember your twelfth birthday, where you had that cake that you said was really tasty?" she asked.
"Yeah..." you say.
"I made it." she says. She then continues with more of her hints. "Didn't you notice that I'd always play with my hair when you talked to me, or that I always gave you a hug when you came over to visit?"
"Wow, I never noticed." you say.
"You really are dense, aren't you." Sarina says, chuckling.
"Well, I never actually thought of you like that..." you say. Sarina then gets up and looks at you with a devious smile. "You mean to tell me that you weren't the slightest bit attracted to me?" she says.
"No..." you say, a little nervously.
"Every time I hugged you, you would blush." she says.
"So."
"Okay, what about the time when we were ten." she says. "We were at the park, and you saw two other girls picking on me."
"Go on," you say, curious to see where she was going with this.
"You told them to back off, and they did." she explained. "Then I thanked you by kissing you on your cheek, and you were totally embarrassed!"
"No I wasn't!" you argue.
"Are you kidding? Your face was so red, I thought you were having an allergic reaction to me!" she says, laughing. You fold your arms and give a frustrated grunt.
"Seriously, though." Sarina says. "I'm really in love with you, and I wanted to do something special with you tonight to let you know that." She pauses for a second. "I also wanted to know how you felt about me."
You think about it for a while. You had to admit that as you guys grew up and became teenagers, you noticed things about Sarina that you hadn't noticed before. Her carefree personality, her kindness and loyalty, not to mention her curves. You'd be lying if you said that you didn't stare from time to time. But Sarina is your friend, you never actually felt an attraction to her that was as intense as her attraction to you. What should you tell her?
