The place, a Farm on the Kansas prairie. The time, the turn of the 20th century two weeks before the events of OZ.
It was night time, the dawn was a few hours away and inside the farmhouse the occupants slept peacefully. But in the bedroom of a young girl Dorothy something extraordinary was taking place. Just above the sleeping girl's bed there was a spark of light. It was faint at first, then it grew in brightness. It became a circular ring of energy. The only observer to this little light show was a brown terrier dog who tilted his head in confusion. There was a sound that resembled a cry of surprise and something fell through the ring just as it vanished.
Ash's confusing thoughts continued as he suddenly found himself in free fall. He didn't fall far however and fortunately his landing was soft. Shaking his head, he looked about him. It was dark where ever he was, but there was enough light to see his surroundings. What he saw astounded him. He was in a vast gigantic room. At one end was a door hundreds of feet tall, he could see a dresser and he was on.....
He was on a bed. An occupied bed.
The form under the blankets looked like a mountain range, but he could see her face in the distance. Yes, her. It was defiantly a her. Long brown hair hung around her face as she slept. She looked human, and yet didn't. For one thing her eyes were a size or two larger than humans, she had a cute upturned nose and large full lips.
While he looked at the sight that befell him, Ash's Brain was trying to process what was going on. It kept telling him it was impossible, however as Sherlock Holmes once said "When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." His brain may not be agreeing, but he had to accept his current situation as real until he could determine otherwise. The blanket he was kneeling on certainly felt real enough and that would do for now. He decided to approach the face of the giantess to get a closer look. Climbing cautiously over the hills and valleys of the blanket he stood in front of the peaceful face.
Suddenly there was a growl. Some thing was just out of his view of sight beyond the edge of the bed. It sounded like a dog, a Dog large in proportions but not in breed. Somehow it had become aware of him and was protecting it's master even though Ash was incapable nor desire to cause harm. With his attention drawn away from the giantess behind him he hadn't noticed that she had begun to stir.
"Toto, go back to bed...."
The ground erupted as the blanket heaved up from underneath him and Ash suddenly found himself tumbling away from the giantess and toward the edge of the bed.
