I always feel happier when I'm asleep then when I'm awake, when I'm asleep I can go back to when I was a normal human girl, when everything was innocent, when I didn't have to constantly worry about being eaten by something.
But very soon I know I have to wake up, the light of dawn is creeping into my den, it rouses me from my sleep. I have no choice, I have to get up.
I yawn sleepily, I smell something delicious being cooked
I peer out of my den and see Jonathan stirring a bubbling pot of something
Jonathan is one of the few humans I willingly tolerate, and mostly because he is half animal like me, He's half raven I'm half rattlesnake. I first met him shortly after I first ran away to the forest after my parents died, I didn't want him near me at first but he insisted he would protect me as long as I was alive...And I admit it's a good thing he does stick around has he knows how to cook and I don't if it wasn't for him I'd have to survive on raw squirrel and frog and other stuff like that...Eww.
"Good morning Sleepyhead." Jonathan says cheerfully "Sleep well?"
"Oh yeah..." I yawn "Pretty good."
"Well I'm making this woodland stew for breakfast...I hope you don't mind..."
Suddenly Jonathan gasped and dropped the spoon
"Amanda!" He gasps "You're transforming more!"
"Transforming more?" I'm too tired to really comprehend this
""You're face is becoming more snake like!" He said "And I think I see a tail starting to grow!"
I look at my backside and indeed a tail is starting to sprout
"It seems I'm not the only one growing a tail." I said mildly "I don't believe those tail feathers were there yesterday."
Jonathan looks down and indeed he has long black tail feathers growing from his posterior
"Oh." Jonathan said "I guess I'm also transforming as well."
He puts his fingertips delicately on my face normally I can't stand being touched, but for whatever reason I tolerate it now.
"Do you feel all right?" He asks "Do you feel different on the inside?"
