Ali and Alexis followed behind their mother and Aunt Delia as they chatted on the walk through the ornately decorated hallways. Standing side by side, Carly's relative thinness made Aunt Delia look even fatter. Her hips were almost double the size of Mother's, and they moved and sloshed like Jello with every step.
Aunt Delia's size wasn't lost on Carly, either. She supposed that she shouldn't have been surprised. After all, they were in New France. Since they'd arrived, they hadn't seen a single person who looked to be under 200 pounds.
On top of that, Delia wasn't just living in New France; she was ruling it. She'd been living like royalty for two years, which also meant that she'd been eating like royalty: anything she wants, all the time. It's no wonder that Delia had blimped up. Even the castle staff were fat compared to Carly, and yet Delia managed to make even the fattest of the staff look thin. In fact, the only person she could think of who was still larger than Delia was her own mother, the previous queen. Was Delia planning on growing as large as her? Maybe even larger?
Ali looked around at the palace as they walked, soaking up the scenery like a sponge. Glancing at her big sister, Alexis looked less thrilled. She was cradling her belly, which was still swollen, and she looked like the only thing she wanted to do was lie down, unbutton her pants, and take a nap.
Ali wasn't off the hook, either. Mother hadn't been pushing her the way she was pushing Alexis, but Ali had still managed to eat much, much more than her poor tummy was used to, and it felt stretched and tight. Unlike her older sister, her tummyache wasn't caused by Mother, but a lack of self control. She couldn't help it; all the yummy sweets just tasted so good. And the nice drivers in the limo had packed the back seat with so much food. She hadn't been able to stop herself. Despite her stuffed belly, she secretly hoped she'd be able to eat more soon. Hopefully dinner would have lots of sweets, too.
After several minutes of walking past paintings, huge windows overlooking elaborate gardens, courtyards, and hallways, they finally arrived at a pair of tall, rounded doors with flowers painted on the front. By this point, neither girl could pinpoint which direction they had come from.
"Alexis and Ali, this will be your room," Aunt Delia said, turning to them. "I know that you two are probably tired from the trip, so I'll let you rest up while your mom and I catch up. I'll give you guys the full tour later tonight if you're up for it. The bathroom is two doors down on the left, and if you need anything, there's a bell you can ring in your room and one of the staff will come help you. Sound good?"
Both girls nodded quietly - Alexis because of drowsiness, Ali because she was still busy looking at all of the wall decorations. Alexis opened the door to their room, and the two went inside.
"One of the maids will come get you for dinner," Aunt Delia continued, leaning on the door frame. "Until then, though, you girls can relax and do whatever you want."
The thought of dinner made overstuffed Alexis a bit nauseous, but Ali couldn't help feeling excited to try out the local cuisine. If the ride here was anything to go off of, it was sure to be just the kind of food that she loves.
The inside of the room is pretty without being gaudy, with pale green walls and furniture of spruce and maple. There is a king-sized bed in the middle of one wall, the mattress overrun by pillows and extra blankets. Alexis immediately makes a beeline for the bed and gingerly lies down, wincing a bit and once again unbuttoning her pants to let her bulging belly free. She still couldn't believe how much she managed to eat, and if the food hadn't been absolutely delicious, she was sure she wouldn't have been able to stomach so many sweets. Meanwhile, Ali decides to walk around the room and inspect every drawer and corner, looking for anything interesting. Clearly, her cookie and cotton candy binge from the car has had less of an effect on her.
Meanwhile, Carly and Delia make their way to the library, where they can sit and chat. Carly soon finds herself full of questions. Most importantly: If Delia was this big and she wasn't even queen, just how big would she and Alexis need to grow before they were ready for the throne?
