This choice: Emily Goes Into A Store For Plus Sized Girls • Go Back... Emily let her feet guide her, not really caring where she went as she wondered aimlessly through the mall. There was music playing overhead, though the sounds of people enjoying themselves made it sound like more of a slightly melodic hum than actual music. Emily effortlessly weaved in and out of the other shoppers as she glanced in the windows of each shop she passed, hoping that something would catch her eye.
She was almost to the end of the mall when she stopped, her eyes drawn to a shirt inside a store that looked like just her style. Instinctively she changed course, as her feet carried her into the shop. The floor changed from tile to a beige carpet, and the din of the mall grew quieter as she strode into a sea of clothes. There was only a couple other women in the store besides the plump attendant who was folding shirts at the register.
Emily quickly reached the shirt, as her eyes went wide. There was a whole section of shirts that were just her style! She began rifling through the different designs, trying to decide which one to get. They had such a good selection, she was surprised that she hadn't been in this store before. Though now that she thought about it, she didn't even know which store she was in. Not that it mattered. They had such a great selection.
Finally, she decided on a shirt and began looking at the sizes. Large. Extra-Large. Extra-Extra-Large. No matter how deep she dug in the pile of shirts she couldn't seem to find anything smaller than a large, which would be way to big on her wiry body. She let out a sigh. Maybe the attendant would be able to find a small for her.
Steeling herself she glanced at the counter near the front of the store. The attendant was definitely plus-sized though she still looked really cute. She had her blond hair in a stylish bun, and her black-framed glasses made her look surprisingly chill. Her extra weight really made her look young with a round face.
Taking one more deep breath, Emily grabbed one of the shirts and strode up to the counter, "Excuse me."
The attendant smiled at Emily, making her look even more youthful as she replied in a sing-songy voice, "Yes? How can I help you?"
Emily set the shirt on the counter for the attendant to see, "I was wondering if maybe you had this in a small."
The plump girl chuckled slightly, "I'm sorry miss, but I think you're a little too small to be shopping in this store. We cater to plus-sized women."
Emily felt her face turning red as she glanced around the store. Sure enough, everyone in here was at least plus-sized if not bigger. Even the other teen girl off in one of the corners. She looked back at the attendant, noticing her name badge said Lisa, as she watched Emily to see if there was anything else she could do for her. Emily glanced back at the shirt lifting it in her hands.
She stared intently at the shirt, trying to avoid showing Lisa how red she obviously was. She hadn't even realized she'd walked into a plus-sized shop. She'd just saw the shirt and had been drawn in. She really did want the shirt, but there was no way it would fit on her. However, it wasn't like she'd seen this shirt anywhere else. This shop probably had the rights to it or something.
She flipped the shirt over, holding it up to better look it over. The material felt nice to the touch, not too rough and not to soft. She even had the perfect accessories to go with it. The only problem was that it was designed for girls who weren't underweight.
Emily bit her lip, trying to decide what to do. She'd already embarrassed herself by asking if they had a small in a plus-sized store. Still, maybe she could just buy the shirt and say it was for a friend, and was wondering if they had any smaller sizes because she thought it looked really cute. The attendant would probably buy that story. Though then she'd be stuck with a shirt that there was no way she was going to fit in unless she put on like fifty pounds. Still, the doctor did say she needed to put on at least 40 pounds. So even though it would be lose, the shirt would probably fit better then.
However, she could also just cut her loses and leave. It probably wasn't the first time someone had asked that question of the attendant. She'd probably understand. Still, she just wished she wasn't so underweight. It would definitely make things easier. That was a problem for a different time though. Right now she needed to decide what to do with the shirt. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
