"Okay, climb on my shoulders--" Alex began.
"Wait a minute," you protested. "What do you mean, climb on your shoulders? I thought you were climbing on mine!"
Alex started laughing, causing you to start to doubt yourself a little. "Are you kidding, Justin? I'd cause your spine to collapse or something! Don't worry, I'll keep still."
Sighing, you realized that he was right. Not only was he now several inches taller than you, but since he still had the proportions of a twelve-year-old who hadn't hit his growth spurt yet, he had rather wide shoulders and probably outweighed you by a good twenty or thirty pounds. It wasn't something you necessarily wanted to do, but if you two were going to get that key, then he was going to have to be the one to lift you up.
"Okay," you said reluctantly, "let me get on." Alex bended down, letting you climb on his back and work your way up until you had a perch on his shoulders. Slowly and steadily, he stood up to his full height.
"All right, now reach for it!" he called out.
"Got it!"
You stood up as high as you could go, as Alex grabbed your ankles with his hands, steadying your legs. He then handed you the grabber tool, which you reached up as high as it could go. Even on your tiptoes, the clasp of the tool was still a good ten or eleven inches from the bottom of the key. You strained your arm, hoping to be able to grab it, but there wasn't going to be any way possible. Finally, you lost your balance, and fell off of Alex's shoulders, hitting your head on the floor.
"OWWWW! DAMMIT!"
You got up and rubbed your head, where a lump felt like it was starting to form. Alex placed his hand on your shoulder. "I'm sorry, bro," he said, his face sincere. "Here, lemmie try one thing." He backed away a dozen or so steps, then got in a stance. You watched in amazement as Alex took a running start, leaping at just the right spot in the floor, and soared through the air. His vertical jump looked more impressive than an NBA star's, something you knew your brother had no earthly business of doing. Was this something that was part of his dream, you thought?
"GOT IT!" Alex exclaimed as his hands grasped the key and pulled it off the hook. You could hear the sound of a shock again and a hissing noise as he fell back down to the ground with it. "Owww!" he said, but didn't drop the key, instead throwing it from hand to hand until he apparently could tolerate it better.
"What theā¦" you muttered, then said louder, "since when can you jump like that?"
Alex grinned at you and chuckled. "What, are you jealous? I blast my glutes and quads every day! " He quickly turned his attention to the key, which had evidentially stopped shocking him, and he turned it over in his hands. "I don't think this is the key for the door, Justin," he said. "It's way too big!"
He was right, unfortunately. Trying to jam the key into the door, it didn't even come close to fitting. What the hell was this place? you thought to yourself. Am I really in his dream? You look back up the stairs, hoping to see the man in the pinstripe suit come back down, but no one was there.
"Hey, bro!" Alex shouted. "Watch this!"
