"Well," your mom starts, "I was wondering if you could stay with us for dinner?"
Without hesitation, you say, "Sure, I was hoping to visit for awhile anyway. What are we having?" As you ask, you unwrap the red foil from one of the chocolates on the coffee table and pop it into your mouth. The taste is incredible, unlike any chocolate you've ever eaten before.
"No, you misunderstand," she said, gently clearing her throat. "You see, your sister just found a great job, and we all want to celebrate that with a special family feast..." She trails off, clearly thinking hard about what she is about to say.
"And..." you beg her to continue.
"Well, they just legalized cannibalism here, and we're all curious what that's like..." Your mom trails off again, not sure how to word her next sentence. The mention of cannibalism makes you understandably nervous and uneasy.
Your mom puts her hand on your shoulder, rubbing it against your shirt. "I guess what I'm trying to ask, sweetie, is would you do us the honor of being the main course at our celebration dinner?"
Your feeling of nervousness doubles, and your stomach starts feeling a bit queasy. Did your mom just ask you to become food? "Mom, I-"
Suddenly, she puts a finger to your lips to shush you. "I know it's a difficult proposition, but look at it this way. I know you're having a hard time right now with college. You might never graduate at this rate. And I also heard that your girlfriend broke up with you." The intensity of her rubbing your shoulder increases as she speaks. "Why deal with all of those problems anymore? Join in our celebration and spend your time with the people who love you. You can be with your family forever, literally." A seductive smile emerged from her face as she added, "I promise that we'll make your preparations worth it."
