Chapter #6

Getting to the Good Part

    by: Kilbil Author IconMail Icon
As Luke and Ethan began their journey into town, taking in the sight of their suburb now being literally at their feet, both of the boys couldn't help but marvel at just how - good everything felt. The air was crisp and frigid, right on the cusp of being freezing, but still just warm enough that the both of them could easily. The ground they walked on felt nice and smooth, the hard concrete of the winding suburban streets and the delicate, well-cut grass of the lawns all blending in together under the hard, all-encompassing soles of their newly-calloused feet. Even the bland white houses that had long been little more than incidental eyesores as they passed them every single monotonous day seemed almost cute - like tiny little sugar cubes all arranged in tiny, winding rows, all served up just for them. It made you want to just - poke at it, feel it; see just how small and fragile it was.

Which was, of course, precisely what Luke ended up doing, Ethan eventually joining and laughing as they continuously tapped away at the tiny little houses that couldn't even reach up to their shins, gradually chipping away at the little tiles and scaffolding of the roofs, a slight rush overcoming the two as the lightest touch caused them to cave in just that little bit more. It wasn't long before one of the little houses collapsed in a burst of wood splinters, with streaks of yellow wallpaper and chipped drywall flying every which way as the tiny pedestrians could do nothing but watch. Luke and Ethan, meanwhile, were left to gawk at just how little it took for them to cause the thing to completely fall in on itself. Wearily, they began to move their hands towards the wreckage to sift through it before a pair of tiny, squeaky voices abruptly broke them out of their daze, their gaze brought straight down to a young couple that appeared to be screaming at them. It appeared the two newlyweds had come back from a honeymoon getaway, only to witness their house completely destroying and two giant naked boys leaning down on their handiwork.

Now, they were reduced to yelling at both Luke and Ethan despite being little more than ants to them, only stopping once to confirm that they were the only ones that lived there. No one else had been in the house.

The two boys, simultaneously releasing a breath they didn't know they were holding in, offered the couple nothing more than a pair of sheepish little grins, Luke yelling out a joyful "Sorry!" before the two of them bolted out of there, leaving massive potholes in their wake and causing the structural integrity of the nearby houses to become all the more tenuous.

All in all, it was a perfect day outside, especially while in the nude. Being a giant just made it all the better!

It especially helped that today was by far the most spellbinding, surreal, and all-in-all just plain bizarre and weird and interesting day they had experienced...ever! Little people were scurrying all around below them, fleeing their homes and swerving their cars at the sight of the two giants casually walking through the neighborhood and either getting as far away from the two or starting up at them, gawking at the sight. There were even a couple of tiny dots, presumably kids, who got closer to them, almost as though to confirm that whatever they were seeing wasn't some kind of dream.

Well, if they wanted to know for sure, they wouldn't have to wait for very long. All around, within the endless expanse of suburbia, Luke and Ethan saw countless boys from their school, waking up within the ruins of their homes just as tall as they were now (and sometimes even a little bit taller than that). There were cries of "Holy shit!" and "The hell?!" sounding out for miles and miles as they woke up, completely disoriented and groggy from having slept through the night inexplicably outside on the cold, hard concrete of their neighborhood. Many of them, faced abruptly with the new reality that they were not only as tall as buildings, but also as naked as the day they were born, scrambled all around covering their dignity with whatever they could find.

The chaos that ensued, as one by one they all woke up to a new reality where everything they knew was now a diorama of dollhouses with no escape, was almost infectious, as each and every one of them had a distinct reaction. Carlos, the kid with auburn hair that Ethan recognized from the badminton team, normally the calmest, level-headed kid in the entire school, was in absolute conniptions at the sight of himself as a giant in the wreckage of his own home. It was about halfway into downtown when Luke and Ethan encountered him, as he was leaning completely down at the ground in a desperate attempt to find his family over the ruins, showing the world the full moon in all its glory. The temptation to just smack him right where the sun didn't shine proved to be too much for Luke, the blow causing Carlos to absolutely flip out and go to town on him. The makeshift brawl was only barely being restrained by Ethan, who once more only came up to Carlos' chest.

It was at that point that Ethan began to hope this wouldn't turn out to be a pattern.

Before things could turn especially nasty, Ethan managed to stop some tiny figures a block away, desperately trying to yell out to them. With a single, strong yell and a point of Ethan's fingers, just like that Carlos had completely forgotten about Luke, leaving him scuffed up to meet with his minuscule family in a joyous reunion. Carlos' family turned out to be ok, so all was well that ended well there as both Luke and Ethan left them to laugh amongst themselves. Meanwhile, Julian, the other guy from the badminton team, seemed only barely phased by the fact that he was now a giant, as the two met him just a few blocks later lying amongst the ruins of a few vacant houses with a serene smile.

Now why couldn't Carlos have been more like him?

Oddly, no matter how far the boys lived, it seemed as if everyone had made the unanimous decision to head further downtown, towards the site of their school.

Was it a coincidence, as the school building would naturally be one of the first things to compare themselves to with their new size? Was it something more than that? Regardless of the reason, with nothing better to do, both Luke and Ethan followed the growing crowd of giant boys to their school

Some came rather gingerly along the winding roads to the school, their cheeks a hot pink as they were still unused to everything that being a giant entailed. Others seemed completely comfortable with their newfound stature, being much more caliver about showing off on the way, but still having the courtesy to avoid stepping on any houses or people. In fact, there were even some boys who just casually talking to the tiny people on the way to school like there was nothing off at all, even though they had to either squat all the way down to the ground or carry them within the palm of their hands just to have a chance at even hearing them. Yet more were being practically dragged kicking and screaming by their peers, having been rudely interrupted from playing the world's largest game of happy sack with a giant ball of mud, tress, and crushed houses.

By the time everyone had finally arrived at the sight of the boarding school, it was an absolute cornucopia of noise, with statuesque boys of varying (but equally enormous) sizes all jostling for attention among the chaos. Every square inch of the school campus was covered by a wave of pale flesh. The poor buildings that made up their boarding school seemed almost completely overwhelmed being at the epicenter of the gathering, with the tops barely able to reach up to their shins. All of the boys were locked in intense debate over what exactly had happened to make they all so huge all of a sudden:

"You think aliens did it?"

"You're stupid, there's no such thing as aliens!"

"Well, what else could have caused this?"

"Moth man."

"My mom... I killed my mom."

"What do we do now?!"

"Whatever we want, that's what!"

"ENOUGH!"

A loud, booming voice pierced through the noise, abruptly silencing the rest of the chatter as everyone turned to the source. Luke immediately recognized him - he was the same kid that he constantly faced and lost to in football: a fair, handsome face, with dimples peppering his nicely toned body, his head framed by a messy mop of unruly blond curls. In every respect, he was an ordinary preteen boy, albeit a bit more childish in looks than was usual. But everyone there knew better; he was James Rotherfield - the star player of the football team, and by far the strongest boy in the school. He was even just a little bit taller than the rest of them, despite normally being slightly taller than Luke.

"We can't just stand around here arguing about nothing!", he continued. "We need to have a plan if we want to figure out what's going on!

"Oh, and you're just gonna come up and boss us around like you have any bright ideas?", an indifferent, raven-haired boy sneered.

"Abso-damn-bloody-lutly, he can, you pitiful puppy-dogs!", a distant voice sounded out. You pathetic pitty-cats!!"

"Dude what-"

"REGARDLESS," James continued, "We all already known that something happened here!"

With a dramatic flourish, James marched forward to plant a single foot on the ceiling of the school building as a footrest.

"What we need to do now is to go further than this. Find out if we were given something to eat or drink or whatever that made us like this."

"Well, what do we do then, 'sir'?"

"For now, we'll look around town. We should be able to find clues by investigating around some of the nearby factories. Meanwhile, ten of us will go to town hall to talk with the mayor. Ideally, we get the locals to not see us as a threat, but if we have to fight, we will. The rest of us... try not to do anything stupid."

A chorus of "Whatever"s, "Ok"s, and "Sure"s followed.
