Tom was about to follow his new friend Jack when the first bell rang. Luckily, Tom and Jack had the same first bell together, Chemistry. Tom had always hated that class and was convinced that his teacher, Mrs. Worther, was out to get him. She didn't always target him, however, she targeted all of the shy students in her class. If any teacher could be called a true bully, it would be Mrs. Worther.
Mrs. Worther happened to be in one of her particuarily snippy moods. When Tom and Jack walked in, she snapped at them. "Just because you two are big and strong does not mean you can be late to my class! Especially you Mr. Fritz." she said, glaring at Jack. "Mrs. Worther, the tardy bell hasn't rung yet. We aren't late. Now please back off." "Humph!" said Mrs. Worther as she stormed back to her desk. With how she treated people, it was amazing that she was a Mrs. in the first place!
Jack and Tom took their seats. Tom sat in the middle of the room while Jack sat towards the back. The new Jack wasn't a slacker, as Tom found out he was now known as being a very good student. Mrs. Worther was judgemental, however, and put all the jocks in the back. Besides, it would be hard for anyone to see over a 14 foot tall 18 year old anyway.
The tardy bell rang and class began.
"Today we will be doing some alchemy. We will turn pennies into what looks like gold, but you'll find that they are still composed of zinc." She gave the class their instructions and told them to pick their partners. Jack asked Tom to be his partner, to which Tom happily agreed.
While the class was working on their experiment, there was a loud crash. David Kellson, another student in the class, had spilled a beaker of sodium hydroxide on the floor. This sent Mrs. Worther into a rage.
David was Mrs. Worther's target of choice. He always seemed to screw up, and she always berated and belittled him. The main reason for it was that David, standing at only 5'5'' was much shorter than her.
Tom couldn't stand watching Mrs. Worther torture poor David, who was already close to tears. Jack leaned over to Tom.
"Use the wand, Tom. Maybe you can make it so that David can intimidate that jerk of a teacher and keep her from bullying him." Tom very much liked that idea. He grabbed the wand and zapped David as Mrs. Worther sat down. David didnt grow drastically, only enough so he could intimidate Mrs. Worther. He grew to 6 feet tall. His muscles all grew as well,giving him the body of a light weight wrestler. Not too big, but enough to get noticed.
Throughout the whole process, Mrs. Worther watched from her desk. Like Tom and Jack, reality didn't change for her. She noticed the difference in David. She knew about the wand that Tom used. Possibly even more than Tom knew about it. But how did she know? Tom would soon find out.
