This choice: The babysitter was someone I didn't expect. • Go Back... As Janice opened the door to reveal my babysitter for the evening, I was horrified by who emerged from the dusk night.
"Hi-Ya!! Jackie Frances at your service!"
I could recognize that shrill voice anywhere.
"Oh, err," Janice stumbled on her words at the outrageous attitude of the familiar babysitter, "Thank you for helping us out tonight. Is this your first night?"
"Don't worry Mrs. M, I'm pretty good with kids. I think I can handle it!"
"Well if you're sure. Come in, come in, let me introduce you to the children." Oblivious to the confusion in Janice's voice, the blond babysitter entered the house and noticed me sitting on the stairs.
"Come on pudding," she said, calling me down the stairs as if I were some kind of child, or pet, "Why don't you tell me your name?" I refused. I was born to defy women like her.
"Oh, don't worry about her," Janice interrupted, "That's our youngest daughter, Emma. She can be shy when it comes to meeting new people, and she had a long night last night, so she might be a bit tired, okay?"
"Okay, I gotcha!"
"The other one, Hayley, needs a bit more attention though. She can be a bit disruptive and violent, but just make sure to feed her and she'll sleep easy. I've put a list of things to do on the fridge, my number should be in that list if you need anything. Please call me if you need any help, and make sure you tuck my girls into bed early. Is that all okay?"
"Sure thing Mrs. M, you can count on me!" With that said, the parents left the house, abandoning me with the abusive Hayley and the seemingly crazy babysitter who I immediately recognized. "Okay kiddo," she said to me, treating me like the child I had become, "What should we do first?"   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
