Naruto takes Hinata to the Hokage Mountain.

After Hinata left Naruto had time to organize his thoughts, first trying to understand how on earth could he forget he never talked with her about that confession and then why he got so.. timid about it.

On the former he could only arrive to the conclusion he was his typical idiot forgetful self, getting lost in the heat of battle wasn't anywhere near a good excuse when years after he seemed to not care at all about Hinata expressing her feelings for him. Even if he was still in love with Sakura and wouldn't want to start a relationship with her, that was a horrible way to treat a close friend like Hinata. She was right, she deserved a great apology and if she wanted the best date ever, so be it.

But on the latter he struggled a bit more clearing up his mind. Was it the shame of knowing he behaved so poorly with her? Or was it her confident attitude that caught him by surprise? He loved Sakura despite her temperament and used to tease Hinata a bit about her shyness, but when Hinata yelled at her he found himself intimidated and nervous in a way he hadn't experienced before, even in seemingly impossible battles. With these questions the obvious ones followed, would he be willing to give Hinata a chance? It's not like she was any closer to get Sakura after all. Did she still love him or just wanted to get that date to move on at last? After much thinking Naruto decided it was a serious matter he was unprepared for and that was the reason he acted like that, but he wasn't really convinced that was the reason. There was something else that he couldn't make out.

Naruto decided to take Hinata to his secret spot on the top of the Hokage mountain, a place that offered a view to the entire village and always motivated him to keep pursuing his dream. He figured out along the way he could chat with Hinata and either end the day with a girlfriend or having rekindled a good friendship. After that maybe he could invite Hinata to a ramen or something, it's not like he had great experience dating or if he had a lot of money, somehow despite saving the world his finances didn't really improve.

"Can't say I'm impressed, Naruto"

"S-sorry H-hinata"

Once he met Hinata and they started walking it didn't take long for Naruto to lose his confidence again, which had negative consequences for the date. Naruto wanted to have a nice talk with Hinata as he showed her a place he cherished so much, but a simple stare at her seemingly unfriendly expression was enough to disarm his usual charm and make him shrink under her gaze. The consequence was that instead of the nice talk he wanted to have now it was just an awkward trip.

"This is a nice place, though is not that much different from the usual viewpoint at the top at the mountain. Why are we here Naruto?" Hinata asked with a neutral tone, but somehow it was still making Naruto feel nervous

"W-well I just w-wanted to show you m-my secret p-place here wh-"

"Ohh, I see. Thank you for sharing it, it's pretty nice I guess" Hinata interrupted him, looking around and enjoying the view though her face was still impassive, as if she was just being polite. Naruto felt like an idiot and could only look down, what he expected to happen was Hinata to marvel at the place that inspired him to become such a powerful ninja and look up at him like she did in the past, but she had changed so much he just felt like a child instead.

"What else did you plan for the date?" Hinata asked as she went to sit in a rock nearby and just looked at Naruto, trying to figure out herself what was going on

"I just wanted to t-talk with you again and a-apologize"

"Huh? just talk? but this is supposed to be your apology Naruto. Did you really just brought me here for the best date ever?" Hinata wasn't angry or at least she wasn't showing it, but the way she just shot Naruto's idea down.. he was just visibly blushing now like she used to do back then

"I-I'm sorry Hinata I j-just thought that we c-could..." Naruto felt so nervous that he couldn't even finish when he saw Hinata just raising one eyebrow at his pathetic attempt to apologize. The old days might be long gone, but he felt like he was in the academy failing at everything again, and even the view from his secret spot was doing nothing to lift his spirits as an awkward silence took over again.

"H-how can I apologize?" Naruto walked towards Hinata but he didn't dare sitting down next to her, instead he just stood there desperately wanting to get this over with
