Like everyone else, Hinata knew Naruto's behavior soured a bit recently, he no longer looked like that cheerful ninja she treasured so much back then and fell in love with until she was rejected, but now was a bit more.. gloomy or something. Hinata wanted to help him go back to his old self, but from what she heard he was avoiding people lately so decided to give him space until he contacted her
"Hi Hinata, no.. I don't think everything is ok" He said with a somber look, it hurt him watching Hinata now, looking more beautiful and confident than ever, no longer stuttering, behaving with the same air around her his former crush did. To think he said no to her when she threw herself at him for years, it was difficult to accept, but now he wanted a chance and needed to know if Hinata was interested, even if she was already with Kiba
"Why not? Everyone is worried about you, you know?" Hinata said softly, hoping Naruto could finally open up about whatever was bothering him. Everyone was moving on with their lives in peace time except him, maybe without being busy training and fighting he felt he lacked a purpose?
"Hinata I... I made a big mistake. I shouldn't have rejected you back then" Naruto finally confessed and he even started tearing up. "I'm sorry but please, give me a chance to be with you" Naruto's feelings where such a burden that he actually ended up kneeling down in front of Hinata, such was his regret compounded by the fact he didn't want to be seen crying over something like this so he just remained there, looking at the floor where he could only see Hinata's sandaled feet, before waiting for an answer
Hinata was also completely shocked by this, what was he doing? He told her he would always love Sakura and he knew she was now with Kiba. Her first instinct was to frown, was he expecting her to be happy he gave in just because Sakura said no? but looking at him breaking down like that was weird, she could tell it pained him to do this a lot, and she didn't know if it was because he truly regretted his decision or because it was humiliating having to "settle" with her. Naruto watching Hinata twisting her feet a bit while she remained quiet, one thing was sure, she was already happy with Kiba, would she be willing to throw that away just for a chance with Naruto? with this Naruto?
"Stand up Naruto, stop making a scene" Hinata said at last. Naruto's eyes widened, this was the same tone Sakura used back then, could this mean everything was lost now?
Fearing the worst scenario Naruto refused her order and decided to beg again "Please Hinata, forgive me!"
Hinata didn't know what to do now, the part of Naruto not giving up was still there, but now he was begging her for something she wasn't willing to give. At least not as a boyfriend, which is what he wanted. But maybe he could be part of her life in some other way? Hinata knew Kiba considered Naruto a rival back then, so if he really wanted this so much, he might have to humble himself before her current boyfriend first, and after that who knows what else. Or she could just stop the charade and tell him to man up and move on. She found her man, and it wasn't him.
