Chapter #4
Setting off for the Light Knight Temple
by: Unknown
The next morning you wake up in your bedchambers, a massive room fully capable of fitting a 500' 2" dragon such as yourself. Your bedchambers had a reflective roof that allowed sunlight to fill the room so you could feed off the sun's energy. Once you were done stretching your limbs you transform into your human form. You then proceed to the bathhouse in the adjoining room. Like your bedchambers the roof also allowed sunlight to filter in. Despite the roof's transparent nature from the inside it was made of a special mineral.
The mineral was known as Dragonstone, a mineral made through alchemy and whose properties gave it a sturdy and reflective texture. During your travels as a boy you were working in Salchemgic, the magic and science capital of the Base Realm. You were hired by an alchemist as a bodyguard despite being twelve, but it was during that time you had access to the skills of the previous Kings. You were only 300 feet tall back then in dragon form, but taller than any grown man in your human form standing at 6'1". It was by that time you had no scars left on your body for they slowly disappeared as you matured. It was there you mastered your client's craft.
Nowadays you can successfully create servants out of the raw materials that made up their composition and through necromancy to create artificial souls. That's why most of your servants showed their loyalty to you since they were merely empty dolls with with fake souls. You take your time relaxing in the hot water as you recollect the first time you began your job as a mercenary. It didn't give you the trust of the people, but it did create a fearsome reputation that makes people cower before the name that you had given yourself.
Once you finish bathing you change into your armor, which is as black as your hair. You the use your powers to fly. After leaping into the air your wings sprout from your back. You fly to the meeting place and wait for the king and his men to arrive. As you wait you eat the meal that your homunculus servants have made. Once finished you teleport the waste back to the castle kitchens to be cleaned. You then lay on your back and take in the sun.
Thirty minutes later you hear the sound of marching soldiers and horses galloping. You quickly rise to your feet and brush yourself off. You see the king riding on horseback. His purple eyes shone in the distance. Behind him Princess Clarina was walking on foot. You found it odd that she wouldn't be on a horse and that she's tagging along, but you're certain it has to deal with the expedition.
"Greetings Lord Huntfire."
"Greetings Your Majesty." You replied.
"I see your ready for the expedition to the Light Knight Temple. Where we are going will be dangerous. This time of year the Dark Hunter Queen is mating. All her daughters will be out and about once the sun goes down."
"So that's why you hired me. Just to fend off dragon attacks knowing very well of the dragon you spoke of also tried to kill me when I was born. I can easily take out one or two, but I wouldn't be able to take on an entire army without an army myself. It would take five or more of them together to take me down."
"That's why I brought my other insurance policy. My daughter is very capable of killing a dragon all by herself. My army could also kill two dragons at their current level of training."
"Have you no concern for your flesh and blood. She's your heir, not some weapon."
"How I use my daughter is no concern of yours. I need her to stay alive so we can get to the temple. If she dies I'm certain you can just resurrect her anyway." The king said in an arrogant tone.
You then sigh seeing that arguing with your client would get you nowhere.
"Fine, but I'll charge you extra for any resurrections, got it King Sycamore?"
"I understand clearly Lord Havorok Huntfire, but if you even dare disrespect me again I will make sure the Queen of the Dark Hunters destroys everything you hold dear.
"Fine." You grumbled.
"Excellent, now let's get going."
You and the king's men then walk towards Salchemgic to pick up supplies. As you were walking Clarina approaches you."
"Thanks for standing up to my father for me. I would have done it myself, but I couldn't do it without the urge to end his life." Clarina whispered into your ear.
"Don't mention it. I've worked with less savory employers before. It takes patience and control not to lash out." You replied.
"True, but my father is the type of man who wouldn't bat an eye if his flesh and blood were slaughtered before his eyes. Whatever he has planned is definitely evil."
"That may be the case milady, but if the king gets out of line you have the power to take over. All you need is trusted advisers."
"Unfortunately my father bribes them with gold. I have no one I can trust, but I do have hope that someday things can change for the better."
"You're optimistic. I just do what's necessary."
"Lord Huntfire, that's good and all, but you need friends. Without them life is a dull existence."
"This coming from a sheltered woman who only knows what she's read or the art of swordplay."
"You know that I'm right milord. You just don't want to admit it."
A grin appears on your face. Clarina's straightforwardness was admirable for a human woman. While male Dark Hunters are treated as toys for the Queen in human society women seemed to face similar troubles, but definitely better off than your own brothers. A few hours later you arrive in Salchemgic. From there you are briefed on what to expect.
