No. You're a mage, not a thief! Refusing to sacrifice your honor for a few charms, you set the book back down on its dusty stand. Besides, who knows what could happen if you're caught stealing? You head back a few sections to the learner's section and find another book. It's called: "Spark to Thunderbolt: Mastering Basic Spells" by Serena Froststone. This sounds interesting, since you've already learned the (very) basics from papers in your older brother's room. Mr. Dragonbot, snoozing by the fire, certainly won't mind if you take a look inside...
The book seems to be very educational indeed. It seems to be about turning simple magic gimmicks into more useful stuff. From what you see this includes turning the simple ball of mage-light into a wisp that ticklishly assaults foes, refining levitation into complex telekinesis, and more. "I need this book!" you think to yourself.
You approach Mr. Dragonbot and wake him. It's only when he asks you for a dozen gold coins payment when you remember that you're dirt poor. Lucky old Dragonbot is a kindly soul. "Tell you what, son" he says to you, "You remind me of myself in my younger years. If you do me a small favor, you can have the book for free." This sounds like a good deal to you! "What's the favor?" you ask.
